Lord Peter Wimsey - no question about it. He was intelligent, humorous, compassionate, ruthless if necessary, stylish, competent and a thoroughly nice man BUT had a number of intense and believable character flaws, not least his utter fixation on Harriet Vane who really didn't deserve him. And if he was busy I'd happily accept Bunter.



I'm getting myself organised for my trip. Still don't believe that an email with a barcode in it is sufficient proof for 4 separate flights but the young gentleman I spoke to on the phone assured me it is. since I'll be spending a lot of time hanging around in airports and since I read horribly fast and can't carry that much, I'm downloading ebooks. I have 2 freebies from Linden Bay so far - one by Charlie Cochrane and one by Alex Beecroft - but can anyone recommend anything else? I demand plot - pwp just doesn't cut it for me. Picky I know but ...

It's not long now. I'm wondering what I've forgotten to do. There's bound to be something.

Murder Must Advertise is my favourite I think, though I do like Have His Carcass purely for the scene where Peter tries to ride the mare up to the rock.

Yep, that's a terrific scene. The book I just finished had both Strong Poison & Have His Carcase in it. I think my favorite is The Nine Taylors. The dramatisation of it (with Ian Carmichael as Wimsey) was marvelous. *sigh* I've always had a thing for Lord Peter...

Nope, although I think, if his name is Caruso, someone in my RPG uses him as the icon for a character.

I hardly watch any TV. Just the occasional film and I sometimes catch up with Lost to see if Sawyer gets his kit off.

Lord Peter would intimidate me, I think, even though I know he'd get to the bottom of the problem. Sherlock Holmes, neh-- I couldn't take the drama. And I couldn't afford Nero Wolfe. Miss Marple would drive me batshit insane, so what good would it do to have my first problem solved only to have to pay the therapy bills. Maybe if I was in trouble I'd want someone like Rumpole, or Lovejoy. Nice, salt-of-the-earth types, but brilliant.

Hah, I'd forgotten about Lovejoy. Of course we got the tv show here so for me Lovejoy is Ian MacShane when he still washed, looking louche and predatory with a twinkly eye instead of the grubby shabby ne'er-do-well in the books. I wonder how he and Lord Peter would work as a team? And if there'd be any small partable antiques left in Denver at the end of their association?

And if they didn't do the job then Rumpole would be my choice for counsel for the defence.

Assuming that I don't leave my passport behind or lose my barcode or get stuck in traffic or Heathrow decide to move all the flights to Terminal Five, from which I understand there is NO ESCAPE, or - well you get my drift - if none of that happens, then yes, I am.

I don't believe I'm doing it either.
