Paper free work places
Apr. 20th, 2009 04:04 pmThis is the new thing for my employer and they send out emails almost weekly to remind us not to waste paper and ink in printing, or faxing, things that couls be sent electronically. I've been doing my bit by emailing spreadsheets instead of printing them. This means I've been using excel - not the best option I understand but one that solves the knotty problem of my numerical 'dyslexia' [i really do see numbers scrambled like eggs and have to concentrate HARD to deal with them]. The senior custodian has been grumbling about this for a while - apparently it 'isn't fair' to use a computer for this purpose because not all of the other custodians have access to a computer or would want to use one if they had. So I've come back and discovered that a new rule has been made at her request that ALL documents submitted to her office [and they are many] must be handwritten. This includes worksheets with 500 rows and 20 columns.
Now I'm wondering how long it will be before she bans pocket calculators!
I'd probably be jollier about it if I didn't have jetlag. As it is *snarl*

Date: 2009-04-20 07:28 pm (UTC)The way I look at it is, if I'm sitting quietly doing my own work by hand I can't be doing any of the other things I get asked to do 'if you have a minute'.
Sneaky, eh?
