Firstly, I haven't meant to ignore you. Honest. It's because random amounts of my LJ notifications have been ending up in my spam box and I've been emptying it without looking at it.

Oh, Chicago. Anyone know of any areas where there might be mom and pop shops, book shops etc within walking distance of an art house cinema? Especially the type of buildings where one could live above the shops? Or even if such things exist? Or if they exist ANYWHERE else in the States?

Awwww in the time it took me to type that, husband declared intention to go out, shut dog inside, dog flung himself on floor in attitude of utter despair, husband changed mind and came back, dog was all happy happy joy joy, and now they have pranced outside to water the green house. I think I'd better go do something useful.

I'm finding it difficult to be up-beat, positive and creative at the moment. No one particularly bad thing is happening but lots of groan-worthy things are happening at once and pushing my stress levels through the roof. Cut for whinge )

See what I mean. It's nothing. So I'm stressing for feeling guilty about being stressed over what are, when all's said and done, minor problems which will pass [I hope and so do the cats]. There are two or three dozen people on my flist who are qualified to comment with 'Huh! You think you've got problems! Just listen to MINE!!" and prove what a wuss I am. And yeah, I am, I'm unashamedly whining because, basically, that's what LJ is for - to vocalise the feelings that good manners require to remain unvoiced in real life.

And thank God for that. Now I've snapped and bristled here I'll be able to spend the rest of the day smiling and saying 'fine' when people ask 'how are you?' Manners are wonderful things.

Last month Sizz very neatly flicked Elin into the pond, and stood wagging as she scrambled out. Then the followed her into the house with his ears and tail up and his happy face on. He may not have had a ssense of humour but he certainly seemed to be getting a lot of schadenfreude from it.

Two things today, not necessarily disconnected.

Firstly this - Glbt Writers and Readers Launch Revolutionary Online Community. You can find the community here. It's really worth a look.

Secondly, there's a possibility of a British Writers conference somewhere in the UK in 2010, mainly for writers from small presses though there are people involved who have 'proper' books printed on paper with IBNs and everything! Any authors who might be interested in attending, any readers who might enjoy watching authors do stuff and buy their books to get them signed can go look on this Yahoo group.

That's the important stuff done.

Today has been one of those lovely WET summer days. It started raining around six this morning and fnished about four pm. It's PROPER summer rain. Warm and light and persistent so it dampened everything nicely and freshened the air without beating everything flat. The other advantage is that it makes everything smell wonderful. When I took the dog round the block at lunchtime, the scent of honeysuckle in the lane was almost overpowering. And roses and sheep and the smell of the grass. The dog stood with his nose up and rain dripping off his ears and just breathed it all in.

Todays happinesses are animal related!!

I have a little tabby cat called Tabiti [the Scythian goddess of the hearth] but more generally referred to as Tibby.

Earlier this evening she and Sizz, my huge black dog, were chasing each other round the house with a fluffy honking duck. He was lifting his duck up and she'd stand on her back paws and bat it. The contrast between them was enormous and very amusing.

Now Sizz has taken himself, plus duck, off to bed and Tabi came into the room a few moments ago with a huge may bug [june bug if you're across the pond] in her mouth and had a little conniption fit when it struggled free and crawled up her face. I had to rescue her and toss it outside.

Now she is on the floor by me feet, purring and posing like Bast - far too dignified to play with dogs and ducks, and much too poised to have ever bounced around a room going "Eeeeeee get it OFF me!"
