Worked yesterday, which is always disruptive because it means the grocery shopping with Mum becomes an issue but means an extra few hours pay.

Then in the evening we went back to 'work' to see Gwent Yong People's Theatre's performance of The Golden Masque of Agamemnon, which was fantastic, as usual, and also rather sad. Sad because the Welsh Arts Council have withdrawn their funding and Gwent Theatre, which runs GYPT, will have to close in March. For anyone who's thinking "Shrug, why should I care about a little Welsh theatre group for kids?" I'll just say that without GYPT Captain Jack Harkness wouldn't have had his Ianto, okay? Because Gareth David-Lloyd learned his craft with GYPT as have lots of other young actors and directors and - well, even if they haven't gone into the profession they have learned self confidence, team spirit, how to give their best under trying circumstances and just generally had a whale of a time learning it. The theatre can be saved if they raise £225.000 by March 11th, 2011. Some hopes huh?

But the show was grand and we didn't realise anything was wrong with Agamemnon until he collapsed after the performance. Read more... )

Now I have a headache and feel miserable so the best thing to do is do a meme, isn't it?

This was on [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna's journal:

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request ~something~ of any pairing/character* of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal. If you absolutely can't write, you can offer drawings or icons or something instead (meta? picspams? reasons why that character/pairing rocks/doesn't rock?).

I don't actually HAVE 10 people who comment to my journal but I can't be arsed to adjust the wording.

Man: *sniffing dismissively at our longbow* That's only a little one that is. The biggest one ever made was a 250lb draw weight and was owned by Robin Hood.

Apparently he has seen the paperwork for it.

In other slightly bouncy museumy news, it seems that my nattering on about all the best pirates being Welsh has born fruit and we're going to try and get a 'pirate' exhibition together for next summer.

All together now "Arrrrrhhhh Matey!"

Got into work this morning to discover that someone had upended a chemical toilet in the castle grounds so the place smelled like a sewer and there was a load of - sewery items on the grass.

Then I discovered a wasp's nest.

I hope your Monday is better than mine.

We've got 2 schoolies in on work experience at the moment and it's fun to see how readily they have taken to curatorial work. Time was that a 15 yr old wouldn't have been allowed to do anything with museum objects without being supervised very closely by the curator, if at all. And supervision by a custodian wasn't good enough. It was the curator who was in loco parentis so they had to be present. This year no curator for most of the week and the little dears are beavering away with all kinds of delicate things while I multitask like a mofo. Standards certainly change according to expediency!

Meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] open_the_blinds partly because of the challenge and partly because she reckoned nobody would bother so - well, you have to then, don't you :P

USING ONLY ONE WORD, not as easy as you might think! Change the answers to suit you and pass it on. It's really hard to only use one word answers.

I'm finding it difficult to be up-beat, positive and creative at the moment. No one particularly bad thing is happening but lots of groan-worthy things are happening at once and pushing my stress levels through the roof. Cut for whinge )

See what I mean. It's nothing. So I'm stressing for feeling guilty about being stressed over what are, when all's said and done, minor problems which will pass [I hope and so do the cats]. There are two or three dozen people on my flist who are qualified to comment with 'Huh! You think you've got problems! Just listen to MINE!!" and prove what a wuss I am. And yeah, I am, I'm unashamedly whining because, basically, that's what LJ is for - to vocalise the feelings that good manners require to remain unvoiced in real life.

And thank God for that. Now I've snapped and bristled here I'll be able to spend the rest of the day smiling and saying 'fine' when people ask 'how are you?' Manners are wonderful things.

Should have posted this yesterday but I got distracted by a heavy duty plotting session in Morningstar Manor. Thank goodness for saved drafts.

TodayYesterday I baked ox liver until it is almost dry and cut it into tiny cubes and I'm moving round the house with a comet tail of animals, all of whom want to be my BFF. Also they keep showing me where the fridge is in case I've forgotten.

Unrelated to that - today I went to see Star Trek. Cut in case of spoilers )

Today I'm all on my own in the museum, with a cold and another spreadsheet to do. So *grumps*
