My 83 year old mother has just been offered physical violence [ie 'I'll smash your face in'] by a stocky, crop haired, orange faced troglodyte of a woman who had narrowly missed running Mum over with her car. The terms bitch, twat and fucking cunt were used as well plus a number of interesting hand gestures.

I can't think of any reason why one's own bad driving should be immediately translated into murderous rage, other than that she was having a bad menopause, can you?

OMFG?!!

Did you/she call the cops? That's a case for cops; at least, here it would be.

Yeah - I agree it should be reported - It is a crime to offer violence even if it is not carried through - and who knows but the next time she might hit the innocent.

Meanwhile however, hugs and hot tea to your mum. Give her our best.

That is awful! Did she report it? I just don't understand where the anger comes from. It's like a plague.

No, it was up in Ebbw Vale. That's fairly normal up there.

It was up in Ebbw Vale. My husband teaches in the next valley over and in that whole area the police are so used to stuff like that that they only get involved if actual violence occurs. Such a pity because there are some fantastic people up there too - not just ASBO Annies.

Common occurrence according to my husband who teaches up there. And the police are too thinly stretched to do anything unless actual blows are exchanged.

Sad isn't it!

You're too forgiving. Some people are just jerks full of rage and ready to blow up at what they perceive to be the least provocation.

Sorry for your Mum.

God that sounds awful. Sometimes I despair for the human race, I really do.

I was discussing this sort of thing with Hubby yesterday - just after some bald-headed, soul-patch wearing arseclown told me to get the eff out of the way when I was parked outside the hospital where Hubby works, waiting to pick him up.

In recent months/weeks/days I've been shouted at by various sizes, shapes and ages of men in cars, and I'm not sure if this is a new trend or what. As far as I'm concerned, it's violence - even though it's verbal, it should still be considered an assault.

To do so to an elderly woman is beneath contempt. The orange faced bitch needs her teeth smacked in - here's one strong Newfie who'd be only too happy to do it for her. Send that twat down my way... o_O

Thanks hun.

I only forgive them because there's fuck all else I can do about it other than blog! She was a big lass spoiling for a fight and I feel sure she would have sorted us both out with relish if provoked any further.

One shudders to think what her kids are like.

Where's Captain Jack to shoot the aliens inna face when you need him?

I'd hope ASBO Annie had indigestion all afternoon from the amount of bile she was ingesting only that would probably be bad for my karma.

Thanks for the offer of working her over but I think I confused her by laughing.

Yes, violence in association with anything to do with cars and driving is horribly common. Far more common from men than women. But this one was a real piece of work. My husband say he has to deal with parents like that on a daily basis. No wonder he's glad it's holiday time as of today!

My goodness. :-O I hope your mother never sees that crazy person again. Unfortunately, reckless driving and rudeness seem to go hand in hand very often.

It is reportable as Common Assault. If you have the registration of the vehicle, it can be reported over the phone and a policeman should take the report.

Common assault is committed when one person causes another to apprehend or fear that force is about to be used to cause some degree of personal contact and possible injury. It also counts for Threatening or Offensive Language having the same effect.

Of course, where the police are spread thin it might not come to anything, but if she did it again? And Again? Well sooner or later someone is going to pick that up as a pattern of offending and it may well get prosecuted.

Bet you didn't get the licence plate though huh? Oh well, so long as your mum is all right, but if you do happen to have this happen again? Get as much detail as possible, licence plate, description, where you were, which way they were heading etc.... because hey, if we all reported every crime that happened? A) the figures would be accurate, and B) the crime rate would soar to where it really is and be officially out of control!

Sadly, yes. We'll just pretend it happened, anyway.
