Jan. 31st, 2010 02:31 pmWent to see Gwent Young People's Theatre last night with their latest production "The Canterbury Tales". Luckily Jen had warned us it was 'interactive' and had booked us seats right in the middle so her Dad wouldn't be bothered by having people land in his lap.
They did their usual good job and the interpretion of Chaucer was shall we say modern? For instance the Pardoners Tale's three young toughs were three girls dressed in classic fancy dress shop 'saucy pirate wench' costumes complete with lace topped black stockings. The elderly man they extracted from the audience to join them in 'roistering' was plainly a bit confused about how to cope with a lap full of lissom 17 year old without looking pervy but he really did his best. I really enjoyed the the Knight's Tale done in the style of a mummers play delivered by village idiots and the Wife of Bath's swing style song in praise of marriage. My Jen was VERY good as the ancient crone in the the Wife's tale, having the body movements down pat and wearing a ferociously ugly mask and excellent comedy timing - not just a doting parents opinion but that of Ken who had a decent role in the very first production of Les Mis and went on to direct Les Mis, Sweeny Todd etc all around the world, so she must be okay, mustn't she?
Um - other news - I just watched the Dr who episode 'Blink' for the first time - absolutely terrifying!
Oh and mum is fostering a poor little dog whose owner is in hospital. The poor little thing has been in kennels and not doing well so they can keep each other company. The big problem - it's name is Tinkerbell, but I think that can be shortened to Tink.
