Spent far too long in bed this morning - but for the very best of reasons - ok, not the best but second best certainly. I have finished reading The Lions of Al Rassan and am still feeling a little overwrought. Paul asked me why I read Kay if his books always do this to me but - how could I not. The man's prose sings!!! Books to be inhaled at a single breath but then pored over lovingly in many many re-readings. It annoys me when people compare him to Tolkein, like they do Le Guin or, really, any other better than average fantasy author. JRRT spun a cracking yarn but couldn't write women for toffee, Kay, i should think, likes girls very much. His female characters have as much strength and depth to them as the men and that's rare in this genre. But it's always the men who take the laurels. Rodrigo Belmonte and Ammar ibn Khairen now have to take their place alongside Alessan, Diarmuid and the other non-Kay heros that I feel I have to draw.
Betaed Elfea 3rd chapter last night and I'll send it as soon as I get my laptop back from Mike who is playing 'Gangster' on it.
Got new chapters today from Cas and Steph.
The 'harem' drawing went OK. I tried to do it on the tablet but the lines went wrong. I needed to be able to make the big sweeping ones that the screen is just too small to achieve so I went back to basics and did it in pen and ink. Now I really need to use the scanner!
Borrowed The Unicorn Hunt and To Lie with Lions from Elizabeth and also Game of Kings to check on the scene for Kate's drawing. It's not as I remembered it - I can't find the 'if you won't lead follow' bit even though I know its there. Might have to settle for 'A challenge, Richard!" as the caption instead, though I will keep looking.
Jen's all steamed up about Mother's Day. I'll have to take her into town and give her some money, I suppose. One must observe the forms!
