Jan. 13th, 2004 05:32 pmJust occasionally something happens that makes the whole silly business worthwhile!
Take fan fiction, for instance. Recently I have been thinking that I'd be better employed scrubbing floors and darning socks or getting a second job than wasting the enormous amounts of time I waste writing fiction (of all kinds) and reading and betaing fan fiction by other people....This sort miserable soul serching often happens at this time of year and usually goes on until Easter but this year I have been shaken out of it unusually early by one simple phrase:
bushy white nasal hair fluttering like the pennants on Mount Badon
- which I found this morning in
ajhalluk's story Talking of Dragons. Sublime, eh? I desperately want to use it as a signature!
So, with bits like this to be delighted by, how can reading fan fiction be a waste of time? By extension how can betaing be a waste of time when I am, hopefully, contributing to fics that will similarly delight other readers...it doesn't resolve the problem about writing but Easter is only three months away.
