Aug. 1st, 2004 07:03 pmTime for an update I think and an animadversion (not sure what the word means but I really enjoyed typing it) on the perils of organising out door events during what we rather bitterly call the summer time.
We are all well and I'm getting excited because
metallumai is going to be in Blighty tomorrow and will be coming to stay sometime during the week after next and then we'll be going to see
casfic in Edinburgh - cue for much wine and endless chatting about HP, writing and so forth. I especially look forward to rubbishing Odour of the Phoenix chapter by chapter. I am sharpening blue pencils for a betaing with extreme prejudice and reckon that between us we can get it down to about 250 pages and still have a readable story. Though I may have to get another copy because from the look of mine the cat, displaying a remarkable literary sense for a feline, has peed on it.
Matt has left his digs with the Landlady of Doom and is now living with my mother and her canine cube. I'll say no more - you can get the gen from HIS LJ if you like.
Work - well what can I say about that? I'm in painting mode now and so miserable as sin. The boss has no time for artistic temperament and when I'm agonising over getting perspective right tends to say "Oh, go on you love it really and while you're doing that can you do this as well?" This can be anything from taking phone calls while she's in a meeting to nipping out to conduct a tour around the castle but in any case it makes concentrating a bit difficult. This week this was doing some stuff related to putting on a play in the castle grounds and OH the weather!!
The play was Comedy of Errors (2 sets of twins separated at birth and brought up separately get back together with - as they say - hilarious results).
The troupe made a very gallant effort. half the cast seemed to hail from somewhere in the Eastern Bloc but spoke good English and they were short an actress so the stage manager rushed on and off stage enthusiastically with a hanful of script that got wetter and soggier as the evening went on because - of course - as the play began it began to piddle down with rain. Look - it's Wales, right - rain is what we do!!
I was very proud to see that out of an audience of about 170 only a dozen got up and left at the interval and they were the elderly, infirm or hypothermic. The cast used a broom to sweep the water off the stage then they continued. They earned every clap of the applause and then the cast applauded the audience for their staying power. Jenny adored it even though by the end she looked drowned.
You lot who enjoy a climate instead of weather just don't know how lucky you are.
I would just like to say that I don't normally squee but really feel that I need to over the magnificent idiocy that is
milliways_bar. It's quite wonderful and I am quite delighted to play a very tiny part in it. I'm not sure what I've enjoyed most yet (though the dismemberment of Barbie into toothpicks has to come close to the top) but where else could one see Lord Peter Wimsey, Lord Morpheus, Elizabeth Bennett, the Luggage and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Raphael all together in one place and IT MAKE SENSE. Though I would say the the rumours of turtle pr0n have been vastly exaggerated.
I don't know if anyone remembers him but sometime ago I wrote a fic with a very snide and snarky Auror Legate Malfoy in it. Well, he is having another outing - though not as an Auror but an academic - in a fic that dear Irana and I are writing together. It will be Harry/Draco so a bit of a change for me but we're having fun and have written about 35 pages and they haven't killed each other yet. I may post extracts if Irana agrees.
Oh! OH! and I've just had some Kool-Aid!! it was red - it even tasted very much of red! Now I know what people have been talking about - can't wait to find out if Gatoraid is as vile as they say.
