Nov. 2nd, 2004 06:06 pmI think I owe myself a little squee - not that I make a habit of it but several things have happened lately that are rather nice.
First of all I had a birthday and the assorted kids who were about cooked a formal dinner for me and Snapeclone. Then we watched Troy and marvelled at the llamas!! Llamas in Bronze Age Turkey, hmmmm? Maybe the trading links were better than we thought.
I also had a fic from
katbeseroc which chuffed me to bits. Nobody's ever written a story specifically for me before, thanks a bunch.
The next day we took Jenny to a 'safari' park to see the animals and saw some very photogenic wolves and a pack of Afican wild dogs swinging cheerfully from the spare tyre on the back of a Landrover. There were also white tiger cubs with grey stripes and blue eyes - a very 'designer' look - who played so prettily that even strong men went "aaaawwww" and Jenny and I squeed unashamedly. You would have too if you'd been there.
Then on Friday
metallumai pinged me saying "What's all this about Nano then and why don't we do one between us?" My initial reaction was something along the lines of "Are you out of your tree?" but after some negotiation we decided to play at it. We haven't registered and we're only going to do Half A Nano because we are both ladies of a certain age with jobs and commitments. So between Friday night and Sunday we hammered together a rough plot and a set of charries and are going to see what happens. If it happens and anyone seems at all interested I'll post a link here to the place it can be found. It's a Pre-Potterverse fic set in 1943 at the height of the Grindelwald War and NO neither of us remember it!
As someone so perceptively said with regard to my sudden reappearance, Restituere is dead and gone and the earth tamped down neatly. In a month or two, when everything's had a chance to settle, we'll have a whip round (literally in Oliver Wood/Lucius Malfoy's case)for a tasteful headstone. It was, as they say, a learning experience and I think it was worth doing. I learned to write NC17 slash from it, not particularly well and I found it helped to giggle hysterically while doing so, and I met some fabulous people of whom I became incredibly fond. It's sad to part from people whose company you enjoyed and I will miss some of them very much. Others, happily, I continue to write with in other places. I also miss Gilbert. When you write somebody for seven months and then quite abruptly abandon them in mid plot you can't help but feel a bit guilty - almost as though I killed the little blighter off. But there was no point in continuing with an anti-climax once the few readers had read their long awaited Sn/arry bunk-up (I've been told that to be fair they swapped ends at half time)which was the entire point of the story. Instead an alternative universe has been set up where a number of the same characters can explore the 'what if's Restituere raised. I hope they have fun there.
Tonight I have to work because we are having a Ghost Story Evening at the castle. Am I the only person in the world terrified by ghost stories? And I don't mean terrified in a good way. I'll be squeeing about that too, only a different kind of squee.
