Oct. 31st, 2006 09:36 pmHappy Hallowe'en to those of you who celebrate it and to those of you who view it with deep suspicion we promise that we won't raise anything uncanny.
That said I must put my hand up to having raised my daughter who went to a party tonight dressed like this.
I'm so PROUD!! I bet she was the only slug at the party.

Date: 2006-11-01 09:13 am (UTC)Our Samhain celebrations have sort of migrated to November the fifth. The lighting of fires, eating special foods, making loud noises to frighten away the spirits got highjacked back in the 17th century and turned into a celebration of the fact that a group of political dissidents didn't manage to blow up a load of gunpowder stashed in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament.
We even have a rhyme about it:
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
This is the treason that gunpowder treason
Shall never be forgot!
Which sticks in the mind even if the grammar is all to cock. In any case, 5th November is when we have our fun.

Date: 2006-11-01 01:12 pm (UTC)What coolness! I'd love to know more about that cultural thing. Especially, like I said, since Samhain is a European holiday. It does have roots that go all the way back to ancient Egypt by the way...
LOVE the slug!!
(are you attempting a NaNo?)

Date: 2006-11-01 05:52 pm (UTC)My friend and I have worked out that in the Morningstar Manor RPG we write at least 50,000 words a month between us so we're not going to bother with NaNo. Instead we'll try to keep up the normal output.
Are you?
