Happy 2007
Jan. 2nd, 2007 05:18 pmI'm a bit late with this, as so many people are but sincerely wish everyone a very happy new year for 2007 and hope that it brings them everything that they might wish for.
Some on my flist already know why I wasn't in a posting mood this weekend so I'm .
My sister in law died last week - not entirely unexpectedly - and so, while deeply saddened, we weren't as shocked as we could have been. The poor dear hung on for Christmas and got to see all the people she cared about on Christmas Day itself and the days after. There will be a big family get together at the funeral on Friday this week and we all intend to try to remember happier times with her before she became so ill.
But last Friday morning my daughter came dashing downstairs with one of our cats screaming in her arms - the poor beast convulsing and fighting for breath. We rang the vets and they agreed they could 'fit us in' in an hour or two but sadly not fast enough for our poor cat who died on my lap in the waiting room. The vet shrugged and said it could be anything so we had a funeral down at the sunny spot by the mulberry tree and had a bit of a sniffle and made a fuss of the other cat and the dog. THEN Saturday morning Paul came back from walking the dog and found our other cat stone dead on the path outside the house.
So it looks like someone has been creative with poison - strychnine by the symptoms.
As you can imagine I was rather too angry to write anything nice at all over the weekend. Now we just have to find out where the poison came from and make sure that nobody else's cat/dog/small child can get at it.
So 2006 didn't end at all well BUT I have high hopes for 2007. Fingers crossed, eh?

Date: 2007-01-02 06:31 pm (UTC)Your poor kitties! You family must be devastated. I sincerely hope that you can find the person responsible and that they are held accountable. Be sure to contact your local ASPCA - they may be able to start an investigation and find the source of poison to remove the threat from the neighborhood.
I sincerely hope that your 2007 is much happier than the last few weeks have been.

Date: 2007-01-02 06:37 pm (UTC)I reported the poisonings to the RSPCA[the UK equivalent] and they said that an inspector might get in touch but we only have one for this county so his/her priority will be with live animals. We'll have to sort it out ourselves I think.

Date: 2007-01-02 07:06 pm (UTC)And sorry to hear about the passing of your SIL ... I experienced a few bereavements last year, and it did knock the stuffing out of me.
All the best for 2007 - I still remember your writing from Resti very well, and miss those good old days.

Date: 2007-01-02 07:23 pm (UTC)There are times that I miss Resti as well but not long after it finished a couple of my friends started another game and asked me to co-mod and we have just celebrated our second anniversary. My main character there isn't that far removed from Gil and is deleriously happy in the arms of his lover [who bears a marked resemblance to Sawyer from Lost though I believe him to be superior in every way] in addition to which I have a Gil Wimbourne, though he's quite different to Resti Gil. Irana writes there as well and we did try to recapture some of the Kings/Gil chemistry but it didn't really work. If ever you fancy reading some supernatural/comedy/smut, Morningstar Manor (http://call-me-chas.greatestjournal.com/friends) welcomes all watchers.

*hugs lots*

Date: 2007-01-03 01:38 am (UTC)I'm pissed at what happened to your cats, and I'm not a cat person. I'm allergic, and so is my husband, so much so that we had to stop staying the weekend with friends when their cat-count when from 2 to 4.
Either someones been very stupid or very cruel, and I'd find a new vet if I were in your shoes. Anyone who makes you wait with an emergency like that needs to re-organize their office at the very least. A quick look by someone could have told them that you weren't trying to waste their time with a minor problem.
I'll keep my toes crossed for better things for the new year. (It's much easier than trying to type with crossed fingers.)
