[Poll #969288]

So I've had a good start to the day with lots of slammed doors and huffing - from Jen not me. Apparently the substitute trousers I offered her don't fit, are too short in the leg and look completely disgusting. Personally I'd sooner have my ass covered, no matter what by, but I'm not exactly at the cutting edge of fashion.

Possibly by tonight she'll have decided to talk to me again.

Nope, I'm with you on this one, and out of interest, asked my colleague in the office today, and she agrees with us.

No way.... However, did you get a picture? Because showing her how others might have seen it might get through? Then again, I vaguely remember the punk era of the late 70's, when if it wasn't ripped you couldn't wear it etc.

as a middle-school teacher I thank you from the bottom of my heart-- I waste a lot of class time sending students to the office for inappropriate, and by this I mean underthings-showing or too-short, or otherwise revealing, dress.I do wish parents would also monitor T-shirt slogans: it's unnerving to have 12-year-olds running the halls in skimpy shirts that read things like "Looking for a sugar-daddy" or "You wish!"

That's not unreasonable at all. I mean, I think that kids should have a say in what they get to wear, and express themselves, but I also think that it should be within the boundaries of decency.

Does her school not have a dress code? I'm not in favour of heavy restrictions on dressing at school, but if someone wore that to my high school, they'd be sent home immediately anyway for indecency.

Sounds like she's dropping subtle hints that she wants to be taken clothes shopping. :D

Clothes may be perfectly acceptable by her peers and still be inappropriate for school.

My question is: do the pants have one long rip or a bunch of 'artistic' rips that are supposed to be there? If it's artistic rips, then it's part of the style and I'd consider letting her wear them to a party, but not to school.

Of course I'd also want to sew a panel of fabric under the rips to cover the exposed leg, but that's me. *g*

I can't believe the dress code of the school doesn't cover that.

Also, I just saw a girl dressed in jeans like that, last week. I laughed and laughed -- and yet I sort of wished I had the guts to do that myself. *snerk* Go figure. Still, her knickers weren't showing.

Also, I missed you online the other night! I've been fighting with the SP2 upgrade to my computer, though I think *crosses fingers* all is finally well.

Oh lord yes, there's some things I just don't want to see too much of! Also I have this dreadful urge to flick paperclips or whatever else comes to hand down the crack!

No sadly I didn't get a picture. There wasn't time. I'll contemplate doing that next time - for I'm sure there will be a next time.

That's the one useful thing about school uniform - it reduces the likelihood of having to teach kid's professing themselves to be an 'Orgasm Donor', as I saw one tee-shirt say last week. Outside school the thing that amuses me is seeing quite small children wearing pop-band hoodies and thinking "Your mummy never read their lyrics, did she?"

Most of our secondary schools - 11 to 16 or 18, so would that equate to your high schools? - still have school uniform so this wasn't self expression, just not wanting to change after accidentally ripping her uniform trousers along the seam.

Self expression within the bounds of decency is what she's doing tonight in a Superman tee-shirt and jeans with flares so wide one of me could hide up each one.

Ahhh, I didn't realize they were uniform pants. In that case, absolutely not! XD Er, trousers.

Ah, we have school uniform - right up to 16. White polo shirt with the school logo, navy sweatshirt ditto and black or navy pants. It's useful because it takes the pressure off parents to provide EXACTLY this season's band merchandise/designer labels etc for everyday wear as well as 'civvies'.

We did clothes shopping last week during the Easter holidays but yep at 14 you can never have enough clothes.

Yep, just like Hogwarts. Only without the robes and pointy hats and stuff.

School uniform trousers that had ripped at the seam when she bent over to put stuff in her bag and she couldn't be arsed to change into whole ones. She claimed that her school polo shirt was long enough to cover it and I was the Wicked Witch of the West for suggesting otherwise.

We like each other again now though.

SP2 is a total pain in the butt.

I've been looking out for you as well but haven't spotted you. I'm logged into Yahoo most nights between about 8 pm and midnight my time. Not sure what that would be where you are.
