Family

You choose friends, you are either born into or marry into family.

This isn't always a bad thing. It certainly gives you a perspective on how other people look at the world and how they live. For instance Paul's brother, his wife and kids are coming to dinner this evening. The 3 boys are very accomplished sportsmen, play brass instruments and despise rock music and people who don't get up at 4 am to do 40 laps of an Olympic sized swimming pool [their parents drive them - they each belong to a different club in a different venue]. They don't smile - they are also terrified of dogs.

Sis in law is a very serious minder solicitor who plays squash and golf. Brother in law has a very deeply buried sense of the ridiculous he lets out when nobody from his immediate family is about to witness it and think he's letting the side down.

When they come I tend to listen a lot and, once they are talking amongst themselves, I play AC/DC in my head or think about slash because I am my own person and can do what I like. It's not that what they say isn't interesting - it is - but one way streets get very boring and after an hour or two I feel entitled to a detour.

The dog will be shut in his pen.

Paul's cooking so dinner will be good!

Aahh... The joys of family. Being born into one doesn't much matter, it's the marrying into one that does. We chose to marry one person... Not the entire family!

Ah yes family. There's the ones we're born into and the ones we marry into but don't forget the ones that our parents later choose to marry into and so we get stuck with the step family. At least there's only one on that side that I cannot stand in any shape or form.

And crank up the AC/DC and let the slash ensue! It's your head, let the party begin. I shall blast some music in your honor.

Sizz LOVED the scraps and so did the kitties.

Avtually the middle boy has eased up a bit and was prepared to chat. The older one is still a bit stiff, but then he's 15. It's tough being 15.

Mmm and leftover ham for tomorrow - yum.

Like it and write it, but not usually fandom based. I must admit that one of my motives for friending you was because of your 'My Fandom's Slash in Canon' icon. I thought that showed a nicely open mind.

Hope you don't mind but I friended you. Slash, Torchwood, HP, Smallville... oh yes I think we'll get along well. :)

Oh, it's open all right...the wind whistles right through:)

I mostly read it lately, though I was active in football slash for a couple of years (under a pseudonym, since I'm older...)

I never got into real person slash but fictional characters are fair game.

My RP slash was pretty much all AU...I turned them into vampires, dogs or had magic in it :)

LOL, fantastic. My writing partner fancied writing a vampire novel and we're over 260K words into it. It's just too much fun to finish.

Writing is the most fun anyone can have on their own that doesn't involve chocolate.

He scares me silly. But it's going to be all change from now on. You have a choice of 2, both of whom seem to have SOME points in their favour if this stupid party politics thing didn't get in the way, whereas we are going to wind up with the Conservatives.

Ah well, a change is as good as a rest.

It must be fun writing with another person...probably helps get you past those sticky parts where characters won't behave the way you want them to...

Well, Harper might call an election in the next couple of weeks...and I can't decide who is worse- the Liberals or the Conservatives. Apparently the NDP and the Green party are thinking about getting in bed together to make a viable alternative...so who knows?
I hate voting...I always come away from the poll thinking I made the wrong decision.

Eurgh yes, that's tough. The worst thing is killing someone you've grow to love, but sometimes it has to be done.

Writing as part of a team is scary and exhilarating and fulfilling and much more difficult than writing alone unless you know the other writer really well.

That was a mental image I really didn't need.

Where David Eyke when we really need him?
