A while back I fell in love with this video:

And now I've found a full list of all the paintings. Very many thanks to Boni for making it.

Congratulations to Mynydd Graig Goch on being promoted from hill status to mountain! A mere six inches but oh so important in the right place.

Jen is much happier in her new school despite having to leave the house a full hour earlier in the morning. [She is also being more careful with her train tickets, thank goodness!] Apparently the assistant tutor in the Psychology Department is a dead ringer for Ville Valo [in his Funeral of Hearts phase, thanks godness, rather than the 'clean cut' Dark Light image he mistakenly assumed to try and appeal to the US market]. She also claims that her Medieval History teacher is Professor Binns. But even her new school has it's downside. Art Textiles in particular, though she is very philosophical about it:

Me: But I thought you'd started doing stuff.
Jen: Yes, we're drawing - we're drawing pine cones.
Me: Well that's not so bad.
Jen: Just pine comes. Nothing else.
Me: Oh - well *fishes round for something positive to say* Maybe she wants you to try lots of different media?
Jen: In pencil *sigh* So far I have drawn twenty-seven. The first wasn't very good. The next was better. Then better. Ooh not so bad. Hey I'm getting the hang of this. Hmm, good. Oh that's a nice one. Yeah another pine cone. And another. And - oh I can't be bothered.
Me: *giggles* So how can you make it interesting. Can't you do one in the style of ...
Jen: Done that. I did one in the style on Mondrian. It was pretty. My tutor looked over my shoulder and said, "What the heck is that?" I said, "My pine cone in the style of Mondrian!" And she said, "Just - draw -the - pine cone."

"Yes Prime Minister" is on the radio, illustrating how opinion polls can be weighted to achieve certain ends [the wonderful bit about reintroducing National Service which I can't find so have this bit instead]. Oldies but goodies. Also, for anyone who is interested in political satire, The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer, made in 1969 but still pretty relevant, has recently been released on DVD.

This weekend is Abergavenny Food Festival and the little town will be swollen with foodies brayng about how they'd drive 50 miles [or in some cases 300] for the perfect Camembert. I have no objection to food, in fact I quite like it, but there's something about this whole business - the conspicuous consumption and the sheer snobbery of it - that raises my hackles. I plan to do my shopping today and keep out of the way.

Mike and his honey are coming home for the weekend. I was most amused to hear that his pet name for her is Bert and congratulated him saying "So some of the Welsh you learned stuck then". Bert = pretty in Welsh you see. He just looked confused then admitted that Bert was short for Albert. Just goes to show you should never jump to conclusions.
