Feb. 3rd, 2009 07:36 pmI have a lot of time for 'activists'. They are the people who keep public interest alive in topics that shouldn't be forgotten. I have to admit that sometimes their methods are questionable. But for every one that goes to extremes and nails himself to Nelson's Column, or whatever, there are several dozen quietly lobbying and impressing people with their perfectly reasonable and well informed arguments. The extremists are the ones who get the publicity but one should never forget the quiet patient ones who actually get the legislation passed.
I'm reminding myself of that today due to a situation that has happened locally.
, but recently a hunt saboteur from over on the border had an altercation with the MFH of one of the local hunts who lives at Ex-wy-zed Farm. Hard things and offensive things were said on both sides and the saboteur promised revenge.
A few nights later two cars parked at Ex-why-zed Farm had gallons of paint stripper poured over them, ruining not just the paintwork but also dissolving all the window seals causing the plastic to run into and clog all the door and window mechanisms, the wipers etc. All four tyres on each car were also slashed, and the metal was scored with something sharp for good measure. The older of the two cars was written off, the other, a newly new hire car, needs five grand spending on it to repair it.
Okay - so whatever the wrongs or rights of fox hunting, the hunt saboteur should have gone to the MFHs farm at Llanwhoopdedoo, instead of wrecking the cars belonging to a non-hunting family at Ex-wy-zed Farm in Llandoodewhoop?
It doesn't really matter how pure your motives are - make an elementary mistake like that and you're a twat, pure and simple.
