Being Human/being ill

essayelI've been looking at my flist and it's very quiet about the above, but then most of you are across the pond. Anyhow, the series ended on Sunday and I'd meant to write something about it so ...
Just to recap - George and Mitchell are hospital porters in a big hospital in Bristol and share a rather battered house [that looks like an old corner shop] with Annie. They are all 20 ish, all attractive - so far so average. But George is a werewolf, Mitchell is a vampire and Annie is dead. The plot is about Mitchell's determination to live a human life, and stay on the wagon, and George's determination not to let his one nasty night rule the rest of the month and Annie's - well initially she comes off as token girly but stick with her, she improves. There's also a scary subplot with Herrick - local master vamp, who turned Mitchell during the Great War.
No spoilers, because it'll be starting in the States soon, but I hope everyone enjoys it. I'm not sure how well the humour will travel and some of the most chilling things for me were so tied to the UK that they might not come over, but there's a lot more to enjoy there. Just don't expect Buffy or True Blood and remember that this is the BBC so special effects are minimal and it'll be okay.
The reason I haven't posted before was because I've been SO sick! Even my HAIR hurt. Since Sunday night I've lived on water and cream crackers. Today I'm being really adventurous and having pretzels and green tea. I have cheekbones again for the first time for YEARS and my rings fit again on my little twiggy fingers. Sadly it was communicable and I've had Paul and Jen ill too. Why - WHY - is it when you feel at your weakest and most horrible that other people make it necessary for you to have to do huge amounts of laundry and scrub carpets? So unfair. /whinge
Anyhow, I have reaped one benefit from my light-headedness because last night, unable to sleep and with Being Human and works in progress on my mind and generally bored stiff at 3 am I - God help us - planned and partially wrote a pirate story, set in the 1720s - with vampires! *head desk* Luckily for posterity's sake I doubt I'll live long enough to write it but I can't get away from the sneaking feeling it might have been damn good fun.
