No never. I've never known anyone who wore green, other than accidentally, on St P's day. Even the Irish people I know don't. As for green beer ... absolutely not.

I wore green today, I've done it most every St.Pat's day since I was a kid and Mom picked out my clothes.

However I refuse to drink green beer. If I'm drinking beer in honor of the day it's Guinness!

I think you have to have the right to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Like actually BEING Irish for a start.

But then people all over the world who've never willingly stepped inside a church celebrate Christmas so ...

Yeah, that 'top o' the morning' bit is a bit cringeworthy. Just like the Welsh don't say 'look you'.

I think that the UK's apathy about saints' days stems from the Civil War and the ban upon religious celebration of all kinds. We got back into Easter and Christmas, both of which had solid folk memory backgrounds that had nothing to do with Christianity, but the saints got sidelined.

However, as in so many other things, I'm sure we'll follow the lead of the US and half of the Uk will become once a year Irishmen. I have an Irish great grandmother! But I've never felt that gave me the right to consider myself one of St P's little chickens.

Yes I wear Green only because it's usually a shirt I got at the year's celebration. This year it was the 25th anniversary run of the St. Pat's Dash. (I am sure the saint would be much amused at all these people running 3.75 miles then drinking copiously in his honor)

Green beer? No. I do have a glass of Jameson.

Then again I'm a sucker for any reason to party. We are so down in the daily grind that any reason to party peacefully is a good one.

We need a good August Saint to celebrate. That month is kinda dead.

The interesting thing is St. Patrick's day is a much bigger event in the US than in Ireland (last time I looked into it.) Big parades in Chicago and New York, bars selling beer dyed green (yuck) and lots of green colored stuff with 'Kiss Me, I'm Irish' on it.

On Sunday we were down at Disneyland and they had green Mickey Mouse Ears with 'leprechaun' hats on them -- scary!

Of course here in LA Cinco de Mayo is a very big deal -- and I understand that it's not such a big thing in Mexico itself, but its been celebrated in the US since the one year anniversary of the battle fought that day.
