Noooooooooo!
Apr. 4th, 2009 09:20 amOkay, so Hollywood has remade State of Play. Fair enough, it's a brilliant story and resetting it to the States makes it more accessible. Likewise rejigging 'Yes Man' from the quirkily amusing novel to a vehicle for Jim Carrey's gurning makes a sort of sad financial sense.
But Mel Gibson, damn you, LEAVE 'EDGE OF DARKNESS' ALONE!! I mean it! No, really - just - don't!

Date: 2009-04-04 12:26 pm (UTC)"Yes Man" is a novel by Danny Wallace about what happened after he met a gentleman of Asian extraction on a bus in London. "You should say 'yes' more often," the man said and Danny said 'yes' to everything for a few months. Including 'Do these trousers make me look fat?' and "Will you go to Singapore?"
But the Edge of Darkness was a massive BBC tv series back in the early 80s about climate change and the end of civilisation. It was deliberately slow paced, the story built over the weeks with increasing tension and horror and it was just fantastic. It won't adapt to Mel Gibson saving the universe in 98 minutes.
Mind you I did say they could never film Lord of the Rings and Peter Jackson proved me wrong. I just don't think Gibson is the right man for the job in this case.
