Someone has been reading [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's journal because GUESS what's starting on BBC Radio 4 tonight! Here's a sample:

Her: Feel this!
Him: *gulp*
Her: My breastplate - hard shiny metal. And these, my thigh boots. Do they look like part of a fantasy to you?

And another:

Him: I'm going to having to report all this to the Devon Constabulary!! *door opens, sounds of hysterically ecstatic applause* Just as soon as I find my way out of this white marble courtyard filled with cheering elves.

"Elf Quest" will be on at 6.30 and I'll be rivetted to it to cheer myself up.

I need cheering up because I'd got a story all planned out and partly written and last night found it included as part of a much larger, very obscure work that I don't like, and now have to decide whether I should try to finish it when I know it's already out there. There are only a few stories after all and we all just recycle them, dressing them up in party clothes, but I know how quick people are to apply the label of plagiarist and I'm not sure it's worth the risk. It's sad though - I was enjoying writing that.

I woke up this morning coughing and sneezing and am hypochodriacally wondering what the incubation period for swine flu is. Oink.

I wouldn't worry about plagarism...there's really nothing new as a story line unless you are insane and see the world in a skewed way (something original could come of that). Look how many authors have written their own quest stories with magical races a la Tolkien.

Yeah, and the book is VERY hard to come by. I'll just have to put a graphic sex scene in the middle and nobody who would read one would bother to read the other.

I read the short-version summary in Radio Times, when I saw your entry, and utterly CORPSED.

"Fantasy writer Sam has been coerced into joining a band of intrepid heroes as they battle the dread forces of evil in search of the legendary Sword of Asnagar."

Yes, it IS Fire of the Crystal Elven Magesword of Dragonstar: The Pegasus Chronicles, Book Three: The Moonwand Cycle. (Well, OK, it might only be Book One...)

Snooker or no snooker, I may have to listen. Hmmm, hi-fi still not hooked up, but Radio 4 is Freeview channel 704.

I missed it! Remembered when there was only 5 minutes to go, so I'll listen on iPlayer when they upload it.

It sounded delightfully daft and very appropriate for Sam.
