Miss Marple. Definitely Miss Marple. Partly because of the comforting familiarity of her surroundings, but mostly because of her steely yet tolerant outlook on life. It would be interesting to swap some of her cases with those of Poirot. I feel sure that she'd have a better success rate with his than he would with hers because while circumstances change human nature doesn't much.

Date: 2009-07-21 07:10 am (UTC)I've seen this "Writer's Block" on a few friend's entries today, and I kept thinking "What about Miss Marple?". I'm glad you thought of her, too.

Date: 2009-07-21 07:46 am (UTC)I've enjoyed the TV versions but I think Joan Hickson (http://knowledgerush.com/wiki_image/4/40/Joan_Hickson_is_Miss_Marple.jpg) was by far the best Miss Marple. She had that calm wise face and I could imagine her being quite ruthless to get justice done - not necessarily within the law.

Date: 2009-07-21 09:00 am (UTC)I always liked Margaret Rutherford (I grew up with her portrayal) but she's not in any way like Christie's Marple.
I wasn't keen on Geraldine McEwan's version either. Julie McKenzie's not too bad, but no charisma. I didn't like her series which showed here recently.
So I guess that leaves Joan Hickson. I grew to like her Miss Marple the more I saw her, and at least her TV shows stuck more to Christie's books than the later ones.
