Developments
Aug. 8th, 2009 05:56 amUp well before dawn this morning, courtesy of the dog's bladder. But it's a nice clear morning and it was good to hear the dawn chorus as we walked around the usual block of fields. Sadly it seems that the 21st century has caught up with us a bit because the area of my walk between 9 and 11 has been scheduled for development and they want to build houses on it.
There's a lot of harrumphing and nimbyism [nimby - Not In My Back Yard] going on about it which I can't really sympathise with - people need houses to live in and they have to go somewhere. But the developers are trying to make the build more palatable to the locals by assuring them that it will be a tasteful development of just eleven [dear god ELEVEN!!] luxury homes with all the bells and whistles so that the additional traffic won't impact on the already over crowded residential streets that will have to provide access.
Eleven houses on an area that would, elsewhere, take over a hundred. So not only will we lose yet another lovely tract of the green belt but it will be lost pointlessly to no real benefit to the community. Affordable starter and family houses are required not fancy palaces!
Then, as I was mulling all that over, Sizz and I had to cringe into the hedge because a silver Peugeot packed with young lads whizzed past. Then again a few minutes later as it whizzed back. I think it's a universal truth that any bunch of teenagers up at that time of the morning - unless they are on patrol in Afghanistan - have probably not been to bed yet and are more than likely up to no good so I made a mental note of the registration number. A few minutes later I was able to pass it on to the milkman who was in furious pursuit [in a milk float *facepalm*] having caught them stealing milk off doorsteps. Not really Ocean's Eleven [there were about six of them in the car] but a step on the way to all kinds of robbery, muggery, thuggery and mayhem. They'll have drunk the evidence by now so they'll get away with it too and the poor milkman will have to replace the milk, which will make him late on his round as well as out of pocket and he'll be upset and stressed for the rest of the day.
Nice day then dulled by annoyances I can't do anything about and brightened a little by toast with ginger jam. I am SO shallow!
