So says Edgar Wright, co-writer with Simon Pegg of Hot Fuzz, on discovering that there is Nicolas Angel/Danny butterman slash on the web. this led to a Twitter session where they wrote their own and you can see excerpts of it here. {Found on [livejournal.com profile] villainny's LJ and too good not to share]

So - update. I'm a bit surprised at how long it's been since my last post. Behind cut for personal stuff and grumbling about lack of inspiration.

My good friend Rex died this week. Not just my friend, though, he was also the master bowyer who took my other half on as an apprentice and trained him up to make the longbows properly. There aren't enough people like Rex left. He was a 'countryman' of the kind that the city based animal rights activists love to take a bash at. He had been a gamekeeper and estate worker all his working life. He owned and used guns - safely and with great care. He may have raised pheasants for the paying guests and corporate bonding sessions to shoot at but that was merely an extension of work that he had done since his extreme youth when such things were a matter of course. This long life had given him an incredible knowledge of the country side and wildlife and going for a walk with him was a privilege and an education. He made good bows too and was consulted on archery matters by the makers of the Brother Cadfael tv series.

So I'll miss all those things about him but the thing I think I'll remember most is the twinkle in his eye as he cradled my husband's guitar and eyed the level of Scotch in the bottle and said, "We can't go to bed and leave that. It'll go off. Now - who knows 'Georgia on my Mind'?"

Writing isn't going well. I know what I want to write and I know how to do it. I even have some of the word strings in my head, seething around ready to go down, but I just can't settle to it. So my Scythian stuff is stalled for the moment and the good start at rewriting the story I'd considered for submission [adding bells whistles and drama and taking out the ambiguity] which grew rapidly to 2000 words, has stalled too.

I'd blame the 'flu' - which was HORRIBLE, if they offer you inoculation, jump at it - because I'm still pretty hard of thinking and want to sleep all the time. But I have the feeling it could be my usual 'if I don't try, I can't fail' mentality kicking in again. It's so much easier to come up with plot for Morningstar Manor and, hopefully, give 10 people a little boost of enthusiasm than it is to labour away on my own.

Meantime, I'll continue to nag my daughter to do school work [FYI - nagging constitutes mentioning it casually in passing more than once a week] because her predicted results at A level simply aren't going to get her a place anywhere other than shelving in Farm Foods, if she's lucky.

Thank goodness for the dog and cats, who are usually doing something that I can laugh at. Also for the wood-burning stove, installed and working like a dream, which means we have a warm house for the first time since we've lived in it. The damp patches on the walls where the paint peels off look like they are drying out too! I'm not dreading the winter this year, and won't have to wear fingerless mittens in the evenings!

Gah, just noticed that it's taken me an hour to type this. talk about being mentally challenged!

re your daughter - while I'd agree with the need for good results- remember (for your own sanity) that results at secondary level aren't the end of the world. Since leaving formal education I have met more people in my field who got there through every conceivable route...

So sorry for the loss of your friend...he sounds like he was a very interesting man.
Hope you "find your muse" soon. I haven't written anything for a couple of years...nothing is pushing me to write, which is annoying.
