Yes, I did stumble across one - literally. John Barrowman and I did that little 'getting in each others way' pavement dance and grinned apologetically at each other. At least I was grinning apologetically - he was probably thinking 'you don't have the faintest idea who I am, do you'. and I didn't. It was a day later that someone else mentioned they'd seen him and I realised that the bloke I'd walked away from thinking "My didn't he look like Captain Jack" actually WAS.

No, I don't expect to get excited. It's nice to see someone like that, looking relaxed and happy and unharried and I certainly wouldn't do anything to spoil their mood. No, I don't have much interest in meeting 'media' stars. I'd much sooner see them perform and let them have their off duty moments to themselves.

I remember, manymany years ago, at a Star Trek convention, there was a group of fans (including me) in a lift at the start of the con, going up from the ground floor to our rooms. And at the mezzanine floor, this tall, burly, grey-haired, kindly-looking man got in, and went up a couple of floors and got out again without saying a word.

About two floors later, someone said, in a rather stunned voice: "That was Gene Roddenberry, wasn't it?"

Once I was sitting with a bunch of friends in a café belonging to the venue we were going to see a concert in, and suddenly, the band we'd come to see sat down at the next table and had dinner. That was Apocalyptica. We later got to meet them several more times, but that was always on purpose. This first time wasn't. We didn't say anything to them, though. They wanted to have their dinner, for krissakes! Fangirling people while they're having food is a bad idea.-

I still dine out on my fave story. Just after I'd moved to London permanently, I was heading off to a uni alumni party when I bumped into Paddy at the end of my street. I stopped dead (Paddy is an old family friend from Belfast) and the words "Jaysus[1] Paddy, what are you doing here?"[2] were on the tip of my tongue when a little voice in my head said "that's not Paddy, that's George Best". Best had stopped since I clearly wanted to talk to him and I spluttered out "I'm terribly sorry, I thought you were someone else" and fled. He always smiled at me after and I will always wonder if he wanted to stop me and say "no, I am George Best", at which point I'd have had to confess the truth.

The other famous peeps have been through work or uni or flatmates or cons, so don't count as much.

[1] Jesus is the name, Jaysus is the exclamation.
[2] I'd have then dragged Paddy off for a quck drink, so it's just as well I realised in time.

I'd love to stumble across John Barrowman (except that I'd probably gibber incoherently at him) *g*

I shared an elevator with Valentine Pelka once (couldn't think of a thing to say, so at least I didn't embarrass myself)

A million years ago, in another life, one of the guys in the band I hung out with wrote a song titled "Breaketime" and was all about being the celebrity focal point on stage and ignored or treated superficially off stage. So I learned early on that people are people, and like to connect, or at least not be treated like the reflection of whoever is walking up to them expects.
That said, lots of famous people pass through here to go skiing.

It just is.
