I'm afraid I have to say Facebook - not because I am in any way a fan of the site, in fact I loathe it, but because a heck of a lot of family and friends are on there and it's the easiest way to check that they are all still alive.

But, oh dear GOD, I hope it's never necessary because Facebook's whole atmosphere is nearly as irritating as Twitter. My status there is permanently 'unamused'.

Facebook is so large and ungainly I can barely load here it home and most of the time when I try it boots me from my connection, so I try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

Yes, it takes up HUGE amounts of unnecessary bandwidth with just the stupid adverts. Sadly it's flavour of the month and the far flung family uses it as a means of keeping in touch.

On second thoughts, would I want them to discover LJ and ask to be friended? Then I wouldn't be able to post slashy videos and mild m/m pr0n, would I? So, no, Facebook is probably a good place for them. :D

If Facebook was the only site you ever got to, I'd get myself an account.

But not before that. Not unless messages-inna-bottle, postal service, SMS texting and carrier pigeons all stopped working.

You'll be pleased to hear that I have got a squadron of carefully trained macaws all ready to wing their way across Europe should the internet ever go tits up. No worries about the cats. I used to know a guy whose parrot terrified his cats. It used to annoy them by shouting "Fuck off Furball" at them and confuse them by imitating the electric can opener.

Well, yes, if the internet went away again, there'd be no facebook, either. And lots of other digital technology would go away, too. So I guess the birds would be our best bet...

I think for me it would be yahoo mail.... I tend to get lots of emails.
