COUNTRY MOUSE!!!!!!! I went to Newport - hardly a thriving metrollops yesterday and spent a lot of my time hyper ventilating the traffic fumes. GAH just horrible.

Also sad but true is this. Story of our lives?

I think country mice have the best of it. We might be scared in the city but at least we aren't BORED.

I like to have both in easy reach; I've lived in the completely rural country, and on the outskirts of a good-sized city. Both have their drawbacks and their attractions. Actually, if it weren't for the ticks, and hunting seasons, I'd pick country hands down. There's nude swimming in the creek, and acres of woodland, and interesting wildlife, and I see few enough movies and now there is internet anyway... Still, driving 30 or 40 miles to do grocery shopping is no fun either. Small-mindedness, mental stagnation, hooliganism, etc, can be common to both, I'm afraid, so that doesn't help the choice. Back when I was living in the country, I missed good bookshops and a circle of nearby friends; now that I'm on the edge of St Louis, my friends are even more far-flung than ever, and I order books from Amazon most of the time. I could be living anywhere. :D

I should amend that to village mouse really. I've never lived anywhere that was really isolated and I don't think I'd like it. But village life, as I was brought up, is ideal.

I'm a city person; I did enjoy the rural quietness of No Computer Land every time, but after the two weeks, it was quite all right to come back to a place again where there are shops and no bats.

And I try to keep the demands of responsible adulthood at a minimum, see icon. At the moment, though, I ought to get on with things instead of commenting more, because Lucifer is howling at my door.

I'm responsible for my cats. That comes before 'Internet forever!'

I like bats. And my interest in shops other than purely utilitarian shops was nipped in the bud when my dad lost his job when I was 8. He was out of work for a year and the comparative poverty made a BIG impression. I feel horribly uneasy about shopping for fun.

The internet is superb because it's there anyway so i might as well use it. If we did live in the country I'd be very careful to ensure there was a broadband connection to the village.

Yep, if I ever go there again, it'll be complete with my own internet-inna-pocket.

And I loved the bats! We observed bat flying hour every evening when there wasn't rain, and stared out into the dark until we saw them hunting. There is even a batwatching tour every Wednesday in the nearest seaside resort. I never went, but the Little Lady did, with parts of another family that asked us to come along. I declined, despite the fact I desperately wanted to go, because I got the impression the dad of that family had sort of intentions on me, for some clandestine holiday fling. He'd already complained about how his wife had banished him to the couch yadda yadda yadda. He wasn't a bad bloke at all, by himself, but I simply didn't want that sort of mess to fuck up my holidays. That was when I was all 'I don't hunt dragons'; that was a private joke with the Nazgul.-

That is why I never went batwatching, even though I really love the beasties.

Sorry for tl;dr and TMI...

Just when I thought I had run out of internet shaped things to keep me occupied during the brain-drain of live remotes you swoop in to safe the day! :D That link (and the posts I clicked on after) kept me more than entertained for the 2 hours I had to wait through.

Though I did keep having to check the mic to make sure I wasn't giggling over the air. X)
