So first thing I get a phone call from Mum - "I've hurt myself, can you take me to A&E?" That's ER to people the other side of the pond. Speed dressing ensued and I broke several driving regulations getting down there and THEN discovered she'd left her keys in the door. Luckily she limped to the door and I was able to take her to the hospital. Torn muscle gained trying to shut a window to stop a huge stray tom cat from coming in and chasing her own cats out, so we're blaming him. 2 and a half hours later - painkillers 4 times a day and some little exercises to do. I left her tucked up in a blanket with tea and oranges and a packet of Hobnobs.

So why am I spamming you with this?

People! If you're contemplating having an accident and calling a family member to come help you up - yes and this applies to you youngsters because, if you're lucky, one day you will be old and frail too, OH YES YOU WILL - don't leave the freaking key in the door!

I'm glad she's okay! I laughed at the reason she was trying to shut the window, but I'm sorry she got hurt doing it.

What a good child you are!

I always will be a child to her *bats eyelashes*

The cat is astonishing. He's the size of a spaniel.

I sympathised with your dash to get home, many's the time I've raced across the city to get one of the Sons to A&E, though usually only to have to wait another 2 hours to get seen LOL. (luckily nothing life-threatening)

Glad to hear all's well! :)

Yes, big relief. When she rang I thought her hip had gone.

The minute I hear the words 'accident and emergency' I make a reflexive grab for a book. Today I took my reader, cranked the font size up to a point where Mum's cataracts could cope with it and we sat with our heads together and read Captain Blood!

I'm glad she's okay! Geez, all that from a stray cat!

I can't remember the number of times I've left my keys in the front door... and I'm only 45!! Don't know what I'll be like in my senior years! *g*

I know the feeling. Let's agree that we are too busy thinking wonderful thoughts to deal with the mundanities of life?

It's only the outside that's old and frail. Inside she's sharp as a knife :D

Ah, but us old gals can't help our poor memories, I do all sorts of daft things these days and remembering the name of things? Forget it! Um, no pun intended! lol

LOL. She does pretty well for 85.

I do a lot of that business where I turn the kettle on, fetch the laundry, turn the kettle back on, take the trash out, turn the kettle back on. Sometimes I remember to make tea.

Could have been worse, she could have done what I did a while back, and in the morning went off merrily to work. Coming home, began to panic because I couldn't find my door keys.

Yup, they were right where I left them. In the OUTSIDE of the front door!!! Thank god I have honest neighbours!

Glad your mum is ok, and that the huge cat did not get in. Hope she recovers well too.

When I went round tonight the huge cat was in, on her lap and purring like a motorbike. He's lovely, it's just that he's so very very butch.

I've done the 'leaving the keys outside' thing. So embarrassing.

You're not my long lost sister are you?? It's just that your mother sounds awfully like my mother, right down to the cats and the keys! Glad she was okay.

Thanks :) I went round on my way home from work tonight and the stray cat was cuddled up on her lap. She says the warmth makes her leg feel better!

I hope your mother gets well soon (and remembers not to leave the key in the door in the future so that the same won't ever happen during a more serious emergency).

Aww, hope she feels better soon!

Reminds me of the time my mother felt faint and decided to respond to this by locking the door to the bathroom so we wouldn't come in. Dad had to break it down with a sledgehammer.
