Daughter is dropping out of university. She says it's because the course isn't what she thought it was, but I suspect that it's due to having partied so hard she's missed assignments. I'm not entirely surprised. Her brother did it, too, and I crashed and burned the February of my first year in halls.

So this week I'll be bringing her and her stuff home, trying to negotiate a workable truce between her and her dad and trying to help her find a job.

*rolls up sleeves* Piece of cake.

Piece of cake? You're a strong person and a good parent.
Go you!

Thanks honey. My mum reckons I should be upset or worried but I reckon that just gets in the way of getting the job done. Not that it'll stop me bitching about it to relive my feelings, :D

That's what LJ is for isn't it?

Yes it is! Sometimes I hesitate to just dump all I feel here, but hey!,...this is my little corner of the world, as it is yours!
So, by all means, bitch away. I'm sure you'll need to! I'll read! :)

Yep, it'll work out eventually. She' the kind of kid who'll find something she likes. It might just take a while.

Oh but I was enjoying having a medium tidy house!

I got kicked out after failing my 2nd year exams - and in my case, it really *was* the wrong course for me, the trouble being that at the time the 'right' course didn't exist! (Didn't help that I'd been severely depressed through most of my second year, of course...)

Still, I got offered a job at exactly the same time, as one had come in to the department that week.

Is Torchwood hiring at the moment at all?

She'd fit right in with Torchwood! Captain Jack wouldn't know what hit him.

I'm mirroring you with the second year depression thing. Utterly miserable.

But she seems happier since she's admitted she needs to leave.

*hugs back* At least she wants to come home. If she's near at hand we can push her into doing sensible stuff.

These things happen; I've watched it happen three times. Oh yeah, joys of parenthood. They eventually get into the adult world, like they were eventually housebroken. It seems forever.... a job, a flat w/ a roommate, a taste of grownup life will be good.

(What this means is that you'll have plane fare for StL this summer!)

Oh I wish we could come to StL!

I wish you and your daughter all the best.

I was devastated when my son dropped out of his final year of secondary school. He ended up on his feet, eventually getting a pretty good job and career. But the going was tough at first.

Oh dear, good luck. So just switching courses instead of dropping out completely is not possible?

Not at that university. I think we're firmly in 'let's see what happens' territory at the moment.

On the other hand :D she can walk the dog at lunchtimes!

Aww *hugs*

Well at least she's decided now that it isn't for her. It's better than going the whole way and then being miserable in a job she doesn't like.

Good luck job hunting. My little brother's hunting at the moment for when he graduates and it's tough out there. :/

Oh I wish him the best of luck. I have no idea what she'll do. I'm just determined she shouldn't spend all night online and all day asleep or watching Family Guy.

Insanity is inherited - we get it from our kids.

Just think what you can have your characters do that will work out your frustrations. This is an opportunity! (If you say its a good thing real fast and repeat it a lot of times - it almost makes sense, sometimes, maybe....)
