It's a

I can't afford a piece of eight, dammit, but this is close enough to gladden my little heart. As you can see it has had a very adventurous life. It was minted in Bolivia at the silver mines of Potosi and should be much, much bigger. I think it's supposed to look like this but I suspect the coin clippers have been at work. AND the poor thing got sunk and then washed up on a beach in Cornwall. There's a whole story in that little coin!

In other news, my car has stopped working. I'm hoping I just need to change the battery!

Also Gwent Young People's Theatre are having a benefit show on Sunday with past members attending so I'm going along to give them a cheer. This despite the fact that Gareth David-Lloyd's band, Blue Gillespie inc. Gareth David-Lloyd, is playing. Nice acting Gary, but the music is a leetle too progressive for me.

It will be interesting and I expect it'll end up on Youtube. Just the word that Yantoe will be there to low mournfully into the microphone should bring in some folk who wouldn't otherwise bother, but I really wish that you could join us.

All the hands it's passed through. And they are dust but it's still here. Makes you think doesn't it!

I'm using it as a sample of 'treasure' for our pirate exhibition. I couldn't find one to borrow under circumstance we could afford, and I couldn't afford to buy a really good example - I have to pay then claim the money back. But this one is perfectly good enough to display with all the supporting material.

Yes I am a bit of a fangirl, particularly of republican and 1st century AD Roman coinage and earlier Greek ones. But if money was no object, and one of the five became available, I'd like this (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/Essayel/Miscellaneous/Ataiascoin.jpg)! I've been writing a novel about this guy for a couple of years now.

Please tell me that The Gay Pirates song will also feature in your exhibition... ;)

Cool! I'd definitely read that! I never quite got into numismatics at uni, I did British prehistory mainly, but I did do a paper on Scythian princely burials at one stage.

The coin is lovely! But I'm sorry to hear about your car. Was it the battery indeed?

We charged the battery and it was working last night. Fingers crossed for this morning.

It's one coin that I scanned twice and pasted one into the other's image. It came from a place in Cornwall where they wash up on the beach.

:D I'm such a kid.

Rill Cove on the Lizard. The wreck is well known but covered in sand. Some of the coins are in fantastic condition but I couldn't afford one of those :( But this will do :D
