Pictures for an exhibition
Mar. 15th, 2011 05:10 pmMost of the best ones are copyrighted, sadly, but it makes my heart sing anyway to find things like this by one of my favourite artists.
Ron Embleton was a huge part of my childhood. He provided wonderful illustrations to 'Treasure' and 'Look and Learn', illustrated many history books, drew Dan Dare for the Eagle and also, oh boy, Wicked Wanda for Penthouse. His skin tones are just amazing!
Public domain pictures are a godsend to institutions like museums, because our tight budgets often don't allow us to pay the fees to display copies of paintings. For instance to have a Peter Connelly painting like this one on display would cost us £300, something around £2 a day for the amount of time we'd have it up. Multiply this by the number of pictures we need to display and the exhibition becomes to expensive to put on. So public domain it is, plus a few respectful 'afters' if I have time.
ETA - Not posted originally because, oh joy, I've just discovered 'Look And Learn's website, where you can buy a picture to use for educational purposes for £2!! We can have exciting pictures, after all.
