The mouse ran up the clock. No really. Tabi was chasing it and it an up the side of the grandfather clock by my writing chair then disappeared behind it. If the clock was working, which it doesn't, there would probably be a 'bong-eeek, bong-eeeek' at some time today. Rodent version of The Nine Tailors.

Thursday, Friday and today are summer. I'm going to make the most of it between cranking out text for my pirate exhibition - reducing someone like Sir Henry Morgan to 300 words is HARD and I keep changing my mind about which bits to do - and writing stories. "On the Pull" now a shade under 2,000, finished, needs an edit, "Country Mouse" a bit under 3k needs a bouncy ending, others will have to wait.

BUT I also need to fit in more exercise. Himself was saying last night that I'm visibly in pain when I move and that losing weight might take some of the strain off my joints. He's perfectly right so I will try to be more active and he can put up with me whining IRL. I'll try not to do it here.

While I'm finding that I need to take some exercise too, because my shoulder pain is back, I feel compelled to point out that you can lose weight without actually exercising at all. I know, I've done it! So if your goal was weight loss and you didn't want to do exercise, I could point you in the direction of a plan that will give you that. (Pre tested by me!)

That sounds very cool. I do need to exercise too, but losing some pounds would help me get going. At the moment I don't do ANYTHING other than walk the dog and he's very much one to walk 20 yards then stop and sniff. Even a long walk is leisurely with him. So, yes please, pre-tested plans give one confidence. :D

Well, I feel a little cheesy recommending this, because I sound like an advert, but Slimming World http://group.slimmingworld.com/ has absolutely done the trick for me. I've been eating both more food and nicer food than ever before, never going hungry, never really feeling deprived, not exercising at all, and losing between 1.5 - 2.5 lbs a week. I've been on it since September 2010 and have lost over 2 stone and it's really been no kind of trouble at all.

The down side is that it's a bit expensive, as you have to pay to turn up and be weighed. I've found the group meetings quite helpful, because I always come away re-motivated. But if you had strong will and wanted to save money what you could do is turn up for a couple of weeks, get all the information until you were sure of the principles of the thing, and then leave and do it yourself.

Oh, I tried that! I found the meetings very demotivating and the meeting leader just awful but STILL managed to lose about 2lbs a week - until a situation at home blew up that distracted me from it.

I'd forgotten about it. I've still got my folder somewhere and can use Mum's scales. Thanks for reminding me.

I will add to that that I am on Slimming World right now and losing anything up to three lbs a week with an amazing regularity! Of course I have a strict deadline on making at least one target, and am exercising like crazy to boot (8,000 steps today and it's barely mid afternoon!), but I can highly recommend the Extra Easy eating plan. That works on any free food on green or read is still free, but you only have one a and one b choice, not two of each as we used to do!

Not too many weeks in and nearly nine pounds gone already! You can do it too!!

As long as you are spared the flooding ...

But please whine as much as you like - writing unhappy thoughts down on LJ can be quite cathartic. And good luck with your exercise plans!

Yes the flooding - but we are on a hill so ... I need to read the Winsey books again. They are SO good.

From experience, (gentle) exercise is what really helps with joint issues. Walking is good, even if I'm very sore right now after two days of not-so-gentle walking in the New Forest.

Good luck with it.

Walking is good, and the dog will very much appreciate it. This is a good place to do it as well because 50 yards up the road and I'm in official country side. Much more fun than pounding pavements.

New Forest, eh? Sounds good. I hope the soreness eases soon.

Thanks. My legs better today, which is good as I want to attack the garden later on.

The New Forest was great. I should go more often, especially given all the people I know over that way.

Try weights. They're great for a workout. I love working out with dumbbells.

The mouse story is great! I love it. LOL
