Funny how swings and roundabouts life can be. Yesterday I was all whoop de do, today I'm bloody grumpy.

Woke up with a thundering headache due to too much time spent awake listening to himself snore. Too much time awake led to huge amounts of reconsidering this 'n' that to do with ability, validity, wasting my time etc etc [usual 3 am stuff for me] including deciding that a particular story set in a very specific mythology that already has a LOT of words associated with it is a non-runner due to something very similar being published very soon [if it was werewolves or vampires it wouldn't matter, there are MASSES of those but this is a bit unusual]. Lack of sleep meant I didn't keep a proper eye on mum so, for the third week running, she managed to lose some money and is upset about it [I'll sneakily replace it when she's not looking - put it down the side of a chair or something]. Then I got home and walked the dog and got rained on. The cat was sick all down the stairs. And finally I discovered that my very full freezer has packed up and the frozen food I'd just bought has had to be buried under soft fruit etc. in the hope it might not defrost before I can get a replacement.

So I've got my >:( face on and need to do something for fun. I might even have to write something smutty. That always makes me laugh. What? You don't laugh at your sex scenes? My God, I must be doing it wrong!

yeah, smut: the more improbable the better. "The gentleman with the melon reaches across the bed to switch on the gramophone player, while the second lady...."

Rain, dog, cat, freezer, etc are a real trial sometimes. I have experience with all these annoyances. Summer before last, our electricity was out for several days: we threw a party and cooked everything that was in the freezer. Hope it doesn't come to that, or if it does, USE PAPER PLATES!!

*hugs* My brain has given me some bloody good plots in the wee small hours.

And that's a jolly good idea, actually. Tonight we had southern fried chicken, fries and lasagne off the top layer and threw out a load of ice cream but there's a lot of stuff still frozen at the moment. We see what's what in the morning. Some of the stuff you have had happen in the past few years makes a bust freezer easy peasy to deal with.

argh! bad day - hope it gets better for you, my dear. If your insurance covers it (worth checking) you can claim for a freezer full of stuffs!

Only if the freezers less than 10 years old and this poor old dinosaur is almost steam powered. We were trying to work out how old it is and we reckoned not less than 25 and not more than 30 years, so it doesn't owe us anything. I'd just sooner not have to replace it right now.

I'm cheering myself up by writing pirate smut.

Oh no, I hope things start looking up soon. And don't abandon your story just because something similar might be published soon - I bet your story is different even if it uses the same mythological background.

*hugs* It's a blip, the household stuff. Things tend to break in batches. The cooker is on the blink too but still usable for the moment.

The story - I dunno. I have a contemporary setting with all the modern trappings overlaying something very ancient and enduring but the basic premise is very similar. Maybe in a year or two I'll be able to get away with it. I've had bits of it online since 2005 so I can prove independent thought.

SO many newer plot bunnies. That can go on the back burner for a while.

Ack. None of that is good, except possibly the smut.

I always laugh at sex. It's such an absurd act.

Unfortunately, in real life, snorfling away while the SO is doing their best isn't conducive to a happy relationship.

But written sec scenes are fair game. :D

I always laugh at my sex scenes. Except the ones I have to write with my eyes closed.

Just because someone else has done something doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it too. Your take will be different just because it's yours.

And my characters are rather demanding not to be abandoned. What I'll do is wait until the book comes out, then read it and see how many adjustments I have to make to give mine a completely different feel. After that it'll be a year or two, at the rate I work, before anyone sees any of it so it probably won't matter.

BTW - still loving Wildfire and watching your blogs avidly for the next episode.

That sounds like a plan. It would be a great shame to have to abandon something that you loved just because someone else had done something similar. At least if your time frame is flexible you can give it enough time to come out, peak and be forgotten. And if it turns out that the other one has started an enthusiasm for whatever it is, you'll be in a position to take advantage of that.

Oh thank you! That's good to know. I'll break open the second chapter in that case :)
