Book purge
Jun. 30th, 2011 11:53 amI have time off work at the moment so in between checking Mum I'm trying to clear a bit of space. My bookshelves have reached critical mass, and so has the floor and ... I bet most of you are in the same position. Only I've decided to do something about it and get rid of the books I honestly won't read again. Some of these are just dreadful and I wouldn't inflict them on anyone I know. They can go to the charity shops. But there are a few that people might want.
Rough Music by Patrick Gale? Dr Johnson and Mr Savage by Richard Holmes? Percy Jackson books? If you fancy any of them PM me your address and I'll put them in the post.
I notice that today's writer's block thing is about regrets over things said and done that in retrospect were a bad idea. I honestly don't think that you can live a normal life without a whole bunch of those but here's the thing. Doing/saying something and thinking "Shiiiiit! I won't do that again" is called 'learning' and it's a really useful process to go through. Even more useful is learning to deal with the consequences. Eventually you reach the stage where you can size up a situation, mutter 'oh dear', then brace up to do what needs to be done anyway.
Himself is on strike today. This is a first. He carefully joined a union that NEVER goes on strike so that he's been called out is both a shock and an indication that this time there might be a good reason for it. He's still annoyed, though and hoped to work off the annoyance by doing some gardening. Annoyance has turned to incandescent rage because he's just discovered that someone has stripped all our gooseberry bushes of fruit overnight. His only consolation is that the fruit, while pink, isn't ripe yet so he's hoping they get a bad case of the colic.
