I'm okay but poor Jen! She started off on Sunday with a colossal kidney infection [feels a bit like child birth only you don't get anything at the end of it] and had to go to A&E. Then on Monday, still sore and tender and full of antibiotics, she went down with a bad cold and was even more miserable. Because she was ill on Monday and Tuesday she was unable to take part in a film that was being made locally and on Wednesday, because she hadn't been able to go out, her boyfriend decided to dump her for, as she put it "A skinny blonde who is AVAILABLE'.

*hugs Jen*

All of which is horrible and made worse by my not being able to do anything about it other than provide drugs and sympathy and hope that young gentleman gets a mild case of lover's measles from Ms Available.

Also I haven't done any writing, which is a pity. a] I'm too on edge and b] Jen has moved into my 'office' because it's closer to the bathroom. Just goes to prove, I suppose, that I'm not a proper writer, just a hobbyist.

Oh dear, poor Jen indeed. I hope she recovers soon! But in the long run, she can probably be glad to be rid of this nasty boyfriend - he sounds like a colossal asshole.

colossal asshole

I rather think he is. He's one of those kids who come to the house, eat a meal etc etc then just walk past me out of the front door without a word of either greeting or thanks. Some are delightful - he wasn't. Yes, she is better off without him!

Poor poor soul. Given the the choice of colossal kidney infection and giving birth, I would choose the latter. I've done both and the former required three times more morphine! Hope she's on the mend. And it sounds like she is well shot of the asshole boyfriend.

I'm not a proper writer, just a hobbyist
Nonsense. You obviously just have your priorities the right way round.

Mmmm rigging!

Madam is out today and planning a visit to the pub tonight. Oh the resilience of youth!

Being a hobbyist isn't so bad, you know. I'd be frantic if I had deadlines that, if not met, meant my family wouldn't eat next month. I really feel for the people who are in that position when they have a crisis to deal with.

More rigging! From the Glenlee :)

Glad madam has recovered. If she's hitting the pub I recommend gin and cranberry juice ;)

There's a lot to be said for being a hobbyist. I don't think I would like to write for a living but I love doing it for fun!

Oh no! OTOH, she's well rid of him! What a git!

I have many days on which I don't do any writing, which makes me a hobbyist too - a hobbyist with 3 published novels and plenty more to come. Write at the pace you can manage and stuff all these pundits who say you have to do it their way!

*hugs* pundits have such fun. I'd be so grateful, just once, to be so sure of ANYTHING.

On days when I don't write I'm still working towards it. The words come much easier if I've rehearsed them in my head first. I bet you do a lot of work too when you're doing other stuff. There's something about busy hands that seems to free bits of the brain that close down when I'm at the keyboard.

I know! Whereas for me the more I know the less sure I am about anything at all.

I wish I could say that I was brainstorming while I was doing other stuff, but I haven't really been that absorbed in what I was doing since the Witch's Boy. I do find that trying to get stuff out quickly detracts from the total absorbtion I used to have in it. OTOH, I have learned to value writer's block as evidence that the subconscious is at work figuring something out.

No you're not a hobbyist. You're a writer who knows her priorities. Hugs to you and Jen.

Jen is on the mend and planning a trip to the pub. "Not while you're still on antibiotics!" I said. "Oh Muuuum! I'll drink orange juice" she promised. Fingers crossed she meant it.

This weekend I plan to prioritise the laundry and finishing Alike as 2 Bees. Thank you for the pep talk.

You are too a proper writer!! You are just putting your baby girl first!
Bless her, what a nasty bit of work her ex is! I hope he gets what he deserves! I hope she's feeling better soon x

Jen is planning to party soon, knowing the boy with Ms Available will be there and has lined up some pleasantly spectacular company to show that she's not pining.

I admire her enormously. Whenever I got dumped I went into purdah for a month.

I feel her pain. I had to go to the ER suffering a massive urinary tract infection I haven't been able to shake off. It's the worst. As for the boy, here's hoping for mono!

Gah, I had mono when I was 18 and taking my exams. It's the only time in my life I haven't even wanted to read!

Urinary tract infections are god awful. *hugs* I hope you've made a full recovery.

Poor Jen! Although she's well rid of him, and you are a proper writer: just one whose priorities are elsewhere this week.

(GAK! My confuser was down for a couple days.)

I seriously doubt you're "proper", I've read your stuff - *snorf*... BUT! You are definitely one of the best writers I've ever read! Keep it up! You do good work!

I'm betting that what's pulled Jen's immune system down so has to do with bozo-boy. Good for her for realizing he's a loser.
