4 am call outs are the pits. I had to go to the museum last night at 10pm because an alarm had been triggered. Himself came too, with the dog, and one of the other custodians was there so himself and dog did a circuit of the castle grounds while other custodian and I checked inside the building. So that's 3 adults plus a huge black apparently scary dog.

Contrast that to the 4am call out where I decided not to try and wake himself [it wouldn't be possible even if it would be appreciated] and decided not to disturb the dog and arrived at the museum to find the alarm company hadn't bothered to call anyone else out. That place is so scary in the dark! Okay, so I'm a sissy and all too aware of the place's Horrible History. Good job the alarm was triggered by the wind and not some nasty toe-rag with a cosh and his mind set on the safe, wasn't it?

Now I am having self indulgent tea and toast with ginger and marrow jam, yum.

I'd be scared to wander around a castle late at night. Dog plus other people sounds like a good plan and I'm glad there was nothing wrong.

Ginger and marrow jam is a combination I don't know but would like to.

The alarms went off again at 7.30. I'll be having an engineer out ASAP.

Here's the jam recipe (http://collected-fudz.livejournal.com/13723.html)! :D

Omg...I can imagine how you feel now. :/ Castles are fascinating to me, but 'this kind of call', in the middle of this *You never know world* we live in...? I'd be creeped out too. Sheeeesh, I hope this doesn't happen again.
Get on those alarm people!

Oh dear. Taking other people and/or a dog with you sounds like a good idea indeed in such a situation.

Utterly interesting the difference of scale between your museum and mine. We have guard on duty 24/7. And I think he has a panic button that would bring the police here in minutes. And not just because we are a Jewish museum and a perceived target of worse things than theft.

Big differences in size, content, budget and attitude of possible attackers as well I suspect. We only have 3 galleries, any of which could be accessed by someone determined with a big crowbar. Then he would have about 15 minutes to find what he wanted before I turned up yawning, hopefully with another custodian in tow. The police used to come but they got bored with it. We suspect that this batch of alarms [I had to go out again just after 7am] was caused by a faulty motion sensor.

I dunno-- if I were a burglar I wouldn't be afraid of you OR Siz...good idea to bring Paul and a weapon. :D

...and at last, a use for the overabundance of courgettes that happans every summer here. XXX

The jam is scrummy! I left it almost a year before I tried it and was surprised at how much ginger there was and how little marrow. The marrow chunks had become golden and slightly squashy, very much the consistency of stem ginger and the flavour was spicy but mild. I think you could add more ginger and make it a sweet mouthful of WOW!

Sizz can look very aggressive in the dark - all black fur and white teeth. One hopes the burglar wouldn't realise he's actually laughing. But waking Paul up would be best. He'd be LIVID and anyone who attacked us would be chewed into little gooey pieces. :)

Never leave the Big, Black, Apparently Scary Dog at home! They love the outing and .. what's the point of having a dog if you don't share adventures?

Ooh I'd love to wander around a castle at night. How exciting. But not everybody is as crack potty as I am. My nieces and I go wandering around church yards and cemeteries at night!!!!
