Aug. 31st, 2003 11:25 pmI've been to the cinema and now know why all the rum has gone! I also have this awful urge to swing from the rigging - probably singing the unexpurgated version of "It was on the Good Ship Venus" as I do so!
I'm not sure if I can express sensibly just how much i love 'Pirates of the Caribbean'! There's no rhyme or reason to it. It's a silly story, some of the acting is very woolly and the heroine is a stick insect! And, frankly, I'm too old to just letch over personable young men so Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, while utterly delectable each in his own way, can't be the attraction. No, to be honest, it's the violence. Wow, those fight scenes! When I was a gel I used to fence - foil and sabre, epee hurt too much - so I dearly love to watch the guys swinging the blades around. It's almost as much fun as doing it yourself! Some of the stunts were silly and impossible but what the heck the whole film was silly and impossible and you've got to love a set up that's so lavish with it's time periods - there were costumes from at least five different reigns in the final scene alone! fearlessdiva last night so I was involuntarily spotting slash signs! This is bad and good - good because it's a bloody entertaining story and bad because I now feel that I must add Sparrow and Turner to the cast of the Mattress.
Memo to self: updating Mattress now a priority!
