My LJ seems to be jinxed. The last 3 times I've tried to post (whch has involved about 8 actual attempts) I've either been disturbed by a family 'crisis' -eg. "Where's my keys????" or the computer has crashed or LJ just ate it and refused to spit it out again. Still, you've got to laugh haven't you!
I been having fun with Jenny - eleven is a super age, she has some quite adult impulses but none of that teenage self conciousness, can talk fairly articulately but doesn't much care what she says. Yesterday she has accused my husband of being a 'colour coward' because he's painting the sitting room grey and demanded that he install 'mood lighting'. When challenged she said indignantly that she knows exactly what mood lighting is because she has been watching Lawrence! (For non-UK people Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen is a very flambouyant TV presenter who advises on home decoration and is as famous for his flowing black curls, pirate shirts and cuban heels as he is for his sometimes excruciating decor.) Last night she abducted my laptop, found her way onto the net and, drawn by the sound of 'sqeeeing' I found her drooling over pictures of Orlando Bloom (www.full-bloom.net, highly recommended for those of you who are into that sort of thing). I had to mop her chin.
The excursion to the OB site paid dividends for me though because there was a report on it about 'Troy'. I had planned to see it because I'm a really big Iliad fan and, let's face it, brad Pitt in a miniskirt has got to be worth a look evn if he's not exactly my cup of tea. There was a cast list - Peter O'Toole as Priam, God love him, and Brian Cox as Agamemnon, nice to see a Welsh boy make good - with very small print and scanning down I saw a P by Bloom's name and almost fell off my chair thinking that he had been cast as Patroclus! Can you imagine the fan fics that a Brad Pitt!Achilles/Orlando Bloom!Patroclus would generate! But then I looked again and it was Paris, the spoilt brat who started the ruckus in the first place. Strangely I couldn't see Patroclus listed at all and can't help but wonder how they plan to get around that particular gap in the plot. Or maybe he will be there but he and Achilles will just be jolly good pals? Anyway, the best piece of casting has to be Sean Bean as Oddysseus. According to the Sunday Times, all the actors have been working out and the costumes are abbreviated t say the least so, even if the film is rubbish, the scenery should be nice.
I'm trying to find out about an anime series called Escaflowne. Inner slytherin (can't remember how to do that LJ user thingy) is writing omething that I might get to beta so I need to be clued up. I found one site with an episode by episode synopsis of the entire series but I'm still a little baffled. Wish me luck.

Spent most of this afternoon painting the sitting room. This was boring. However, I did get to wear a white boiler suit. There are probably very few people under thirty who will appreciate how wearing a white boiler suit can make you think of bowler hats and make you talk in Russian. Paul told me to shut up and get on with it so I relieved my feelings by singing Beethoven. (For those who are baffled these are 'Clockwork Orange' references.)
Since finishing the painting I have read a synopsis of the whole (all 26 episodes!) of Escaflowne and feel that one really needs to see the cartoon to develop an appreciation of the characters. Also I suspect that I may have missed bits. Also I am confused about Dilandau - male pyromaniac psychotic who later turns out to be someone's sister? I'll try to get hold of a copy of the film - there's a nice chubby Goth with waist length hair and piercings who has a stall in the market and seems to be able to get just about anything in the DVD line.
Meantime I have chapter 17 of Jewel of the Harem to beta - or rather to finish betaing. This chapter is a bit stressful and I can't do too much at a time or I get overwrought! There's no fool like an old fool!
