Well, it's about a week since my last marathon whinge and since then we've pretty much hits the depths! Paul's sister collapsed on Saturday and we were told that she had had a stroke - which is a bit rough at 49! She seemed to be paralysed down her left side and more or less unconcious, though she was opening her eyes and turning her head. Frankly we were all bloody scared. However, today she has come out of it and now it seems that she was 'only' in a profound diabetic hypo. Now we have the problem of preventing it from happening again!
Mum also is out of the woods after going through a sigmoidoscopy! I won't go into the actual mechanics of this - but I'm convinced that Torquemada would be going 'Hey, I have to get one of those!' Her house sale is also going through so I expect to spend many happy hours next week wrapping china!
I'm going to miss the village. We moved there in 1962 from the East End of London and it was like moving to Uzbekistan from the reactions of friends and family but it was wonderful! Most of the farms had only just gone over to tractors so there were lots of old Shires in the fields and almost all of the houses were medieval and half or fully timbered - just think chocolate box and there you have it. I remember going with a neighbours son to see Ernie milking the old red cow that belonged to the pub - fresh milk see for the visitors' morning coffee - and Ernie made us stand with our mouths open and every so often would flick up one of the cow's teats and squirt milk into our mouths! It went everywhere! Ernie, the cow and the yard where he milked her are long gone but I have a good excuse to go back to the village - Dad's buried in the churchyard, a quiet and beautiful place.
From the sublime to the ridiculous - I'm still struggling with the Black Dog prequel and it's not flowing at all! Don't know quite what I'm going to do with it. Also have volunteered to draw someone's 'muse'. This is a bit nervy because I can't get in her head to do it but since her description involves white-blond hair, pale skin, white feathered wings and a six-pack to die for I'm prepared to give it a go!
