Just noticed that scientists have discovered the worlds oldest set of genitals in an ancient stratum in Scotland. Gives an entire new perspective to the term 'getting your rocks off' doesn't it?
News - Mike has decided on a future career! After hearing a bit on the radio about Margaret MacDonald, the Parisian bawdy house keeper, he has decided that he will become a $600 an hour gigolo. I have pointed out that he might have to show a little energy and animation with this career choice but he reckons for $600 an hour he'd not only be animated but also pretend to enjoy it. So form an orderly queue to the left!
Jenny, princess among daughters, has been slipping me chips (fries) when Paul isn't looking! So much for my diet!
Someone asked for another Escaflowne drawing - here you go:
Here you go [livejournal.com profile] 00wanderlust.

Blagged a meme from [livejournal.com profile] siriustar. what exactly is a 'meme' any way - other than that it's highly egotistical being all about Me Me! However, here it is Firsts and Lasts meme

First best friend:
Robert Charlton, aged 4. We planned to get married when we were really old – like 10.
First real memory of something:
Falling downstairs in my grandparents house, aged 2.
First real kiss:
Not counting Robert? Oh about 1974 – got picked up at a dance by a biker with long black curls – still dream about him sometimes.
First Break-up:
1975, Neil dropped me but Andrew caught me before I hit the ground.
First Job:
Working in the village grocery shop on Saturday mornings and at the weekends.
First screen name:
Essayel
First self purchased album:
School’s Out, Alice Cooper, whenever it came out.
First funeral:
Fred Hope,
98, neighbour. 1966.
First pet:
Tiddles, tabby kitten bought in West Ham market, 1959. He miaowed with a Cockney accent.
First piercing/tattoo:
Ears, 1975. Dad had pulled the old "Not under my roof, young lady" routine so I did it the first weekend I was in college.
First credit card:
Have never had one and don’t want one.
First true love:
Apart from Robert? Graham, an older man, he was 26 I was 18. I worshipped the ground he walked on.
First enemy:
Big red headed girl whose name I can’t recall. She tried to bully the skinny little Londoner so I bit her. About 1962.
First big trip:
Leaving London to go and live in Herefordshire, 1962. Although it’s not a long way, in those days the roads were so bad we couldn’t do the journey in less than four hours. Both cats howled all the way, the dog was sick and so was I and when we got to our 'new' house (it had been built in 1625 and nobody had done much since) the ceiling had fallen in and Mum cried.
First play/musical/performance/concert:
Not counting Shakespeare, school stuff etc. Umm, Leonard Cohen in Lymington Spa, 1975.

LASTS

Last big car ride:
Down through France on holiday this summer.
Last good cry:
1997, Whitesands Bay, Pembrokshire. It was a white day, sun like a silver penny, white surf on white sand with seamist blowing in on the on-shore breeze. It was so gorgeous. I sat on a rock and howled beause my Dad had died and I couldn’t tell him about it. I had a bit of a snivel in June as well but that didn't do me much good - it was getting ANGRY that made me feel better.
Last library book checked out:
Chris Bunch – The Seer King, The Demon King and The Warrior King. Brilliant and exceedingly smutty fantasy novels, highly recommended!
Last movie seen:
Pirates of the Caribbean. Last month.
Last beverage drank:
Coffee, at 3.30, brought to me by Steve, a king among stone-masons (he’s been stopping the castle from falling down for 30 years).
Last food consumed:
Slimfast banana milkshake – allegedly…not sure if that should count as food.
Last crush:
Not counting husband? Eeerrrmmmm…oh. Ian Dunn, 1974. Looked like a prince but was a toad at heart.
Last phone call:
To my Mum to ask how her house sale is going.
Last TV show watched:
Historical programme about the battle of Watling Street (Romans lots, Boudicca lost).
Last time showered:
This morning.
Last shoes worn:
Black army boots. Right now. Not elegant but I feel I could kick my way out of a tank in them.
Last CD played: Century Child by Nightwish though I was listening to Razorblade Romance by HIM (HER in the US)on tape in the car on the way home.
Last item bought:
Real bargain. Went into Oxfam at lunchtime and bought a grubby old chain for £1.49. Got back to the museum and gave it a bit of a rub and it’s a Victorian solid silver watch chain. Every link has its own little hallmark and it fits very nicely around my neck! Must've been made for a fat Victorian!
Last annoyance:
Forgetting how to spell ‘necessary’. Tried all possible permutations and they all looked wrong. Senility is obviously setting in.
Last soda drank:
Don’t drink soda – it’s yuk.
Last ice cream eaten:
Blagged a bit of Jenny’s Raspberry Ripple cone last night. Chased her all over the house to do it and finally cornered her by the front door.
Last time scolded:
Last night for attacking Jenny’s ice cream cone.
Last shirt worn:
Black t-shirt printed with “Death” by Paul Kidby.

meme = A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.
According to Dictionary.com

Dawkins invented it (see etymology below)

According to OED online:
A cultural element or behavioural trait whose transmission and consequent persistence in a population, although occurring by non-genetic means (esp. imitation), is considered as analogous to the inheritance of a gene.
1976 R. Dawkins "Selfish Gene" xi. 206 The new soup is the soup of human culture. We need a name for the new replicator, a noun which conveys the idea of a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation. ‘Mimeme’ comes from a suitable Greek root, but I want a monosyllable that sounds a bit like ‘gene’. I hope my classicist friends will forgive me if I abbreviate mimeme to meme... It should be pronounced to rhyme with ‘cream’. Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches.

Well, you learn something everyday! I've never read The Selfish Gene but enjoyed The Blind Watchmaker.
Thanks Longstrider, now I'll have to see if I can work meme to rhyme with cream into a conversation at work!
