A friend ripped me an album from an ancient piece of vinyl - Cat Stevens 'Numbers - a Pythagorean Theory Tale' - and I'll be blowed if I can get my computer to either play it or convert it into playable format. So I tried it on another PC hoping to copy it to a data stick - no dice. I don't know what format he copied it to but it's not shifting at all. *grumps*

Also - why won't characters cooperate? I've finally got 2 of them into the sack, one is quite happy to be there and the other is just wittering on about why it's a bad idea. I think I might let him have this one, but he'd better damn well comply on the second draft because the other one is beginning to lose patience.

If you knew what file format the cd was ripped in I might be able to help. It's not ogg by any chance is it?

Re the character who is refusing to cooperate, get him drunk, and see if that helps. Failing that, get your self drunk and then get writing ;P

I think maybe Nanny Ogg etched it onto the disc with her hatpin!

Sadly I have already done the hasty ill-considered encounter, which was supposed to clear the air and show person A that he'd been kidding himself about not wanting person B. But :( now person B is back for a rerun person A is going "hold on a cotton-pickin' minute buster" which just goes to show that if you make someone into a bit of a dick that dickishness will out at inconvenient moments.

I have written stories drunk. One occasion led to me writing: Dumbledore adjusted the set of his glasses on his nose and frowned. "Hagrid?" His tone was as much bemused as disapproving. "Why have you got the Prince of Mirkwood chained up in that cage?" I'll draw a veil over the rest of it.

As long as Nanny Ogg etched the track in stereo you should be all right ;)

just goes to show that if you make someone into a bit of a dick that dickishness will out at inconvenient moments.
Wait....what? I thought the problem was that he wouldn't get his dickishness out? ;P

I'll draw a veil over the rest of it.
Erm yes. That might be for the best. And you might want to draw a veil over the Prince of Mirkwood while you're at it!

Also - why won't characters cooperate?

They never do (but would writing be fun if unplanned ideas never intervened?). In any case: Good luck!

I've more or less decided that since people who want erotica won't be coming my way anyway, I'll let him stay in character. He's the type who knows what is 'right' and this is, as far as he has been informed, 'wrong'. I might be able to jolt him loose later, poor dab.

Thanks for the luck. At the moment I need it.

I can get you an mp3 copy as well, if you have no luck elsewhere. Email me if you need :).

Aww thank you. That's a very kind offer. I'll definitely get in touch if I can't make it work. It's nostalgia, you see. I remember listening to it over and over during the long hot summer of 1976. Guess I'm just feeling my age and my creaky knees at the moment.

No, it's totally understandable. Hubby has been spending YEARS getting hold of all his vinyl on disc or download, and some of it's rare as hens' teeth :). But it has honed our investigative skills LOL.

I got it to work! Sadly it seems that the problem is not with the software but with my CD drive :(

Thanks for the offer anyway *hugs*
