The stories I write meme...well, [livejournal.com profile] casfic and [livejournal.com profile] ataniell93 have done it so it must be the thing to do...

The stories i write are just that - stories. They aren't novels or anything. What happens is I'll be sitting in the car or at work and it's quiet and I think "What if..." - next thing it's a plot. Sometimes, if there's time and I don't forget about it, I write it. Sometimes, if it's not too silly for words (and sometimes to be honest even if it is) I put it somewhere on the net where people can read it and sometimes they like it but usually I don't bother. I write for me, for relaxation and can't get away from the feeling that feedback from readers is sinfully self indulgent - like eating a whole box of chocolates in one go.
The only formula I'm aware of is that I usually write a heroine I'd quite like to be - unless it's not that sort of story - and I don't think I've ever written a hero I wouldn't sleep with, even the gay ones. There's usually quite a lot of action and not a vast amount of intellectual content. I don't know enough about politics of any kind (including gender and racial politics) to write convincingly about it so I don't worry about it. If I'm writing historical stuff I try to get the period detail right but not obsessively - I'm usually too busy doing things to the characters.
So my stuff isn't for anyone who wants a challenging and mentally stimulating read that covers a lot of searing contempory issues but you might like it if you like simple yarns with some sex and violence - sometimes the brain needs comfort food too.

that's good enough

All those reasons/causes are quite sufficient to make anyone keep on writing, and I heartily second all of them, plus a couple more. I do really, really like making words do things!(I use to read the dictionary when I was little.)People who can truly speak English are my heroes, no matter what else they do.

Then there's the fantasy I entertain of being a published writer, and I don't mean just the music reviews I can do in my sleep-- I mean FICTION! (secret's out...)
