essayel: (eleventh hour)

And I'm allowing myself to get a bit excited about it. I have a title - Eleventh Hour - and several pages of notes about London in 1928 and have subscribed to the British Pathe News website so I can see what everything looked like. If everything goes well it'll be like The 39 Steps crossed with What Ho, Jeeves, with an angsty dash of m/m romance.

Anyone else got any 'must look at' resources for 1920s London?

*facepalm* Thanks. I forget the yahoo groups that I belong to. I'll make a post on SiN tomorrow, because today is promo day, but I don't belong to HNS whatever that is. Is it one of the essential ones?

full of knowledgable bods - the historical novel society - you don't have to be a member of the HNS to join the yahoo group

It's a fascinating website. I'm old enough to remember when the news reel was a standard part of every cinema performance and watching and listening to them reminds me of that feeling of anticipation. :D it's great as well as being very useful.

Sounds wonderful! I love that era, the fashion was beautiful and everything just seemed so elegant.

Good luck with it :)

Thanks Cassidy. I hope it will be as much fun to read as it will be to write.

How are you doing? Words flowing well?

Not exactly flowing, but I got whammied by an idea last night that I'm quite excited about, so yay!

Being whammied by ideas is one of the great pleasures of story telling. :D Go for it, babe!

For a language reference, you can't go past Nancy Mitford's novels. Though written later, they capture the world she knew and the linguistic patterns of her generation (born 1904) really well.

The project sounds fabulous. I will be first in line to read it!

Oh yes! I was inclining more to the humourous works of the time, PG Wodehuse and Stella Gibbons, but the Mitfords are ideal. Thank you :D
