gonzothegreat because I can and because Treat or Treating simply isn't done properly in the UK.
Instead of winsome moppets tripping around the streets in fairy costumes lisping requests for sweeties we get hulking lads in gorilla masks hammering on old ladies doors and saying "Give us some money or we'll smash your fucking windows." Like so many American ideas we have taken it adapted it to local conditions and completely missed the point - like 'fast food', which is neither fast nor edible.
Actually, candy I can live without but the wad of paper could come in very handy.

Date: 2004-10-31 09:05 am (UTC)I just wanted to say thanks for the heads up about the writer who was raided - I'm not a US citizen, but I still found the story deeply disturbing on a human level. I've posted about it in my journal.
Cheers,

Writers have to research their subject, otherwise you might as well be writing for Mills and boon or Harlequin, but some subjects look as they are now too touchy to approach.
