Once, many years ago, in an HP fanfic, I described a big black dog as being "part newfoundland, part retriever, part pitpony and part walrus" and thought I was joking.

But I have just been watching my big black dog standing in the pond, his head completely submerged as he chases the newts, and listening to the loud and exciting bubbling noises he makes.

All he needs is the tusks.

What is it with dogs that they can stick their whole heads in the water like that, for fun? Crash does this too. I have decided he's part duck-- the dabbling kind.
