Not sure if any of you remember the goldfish but I saw it today and it is alive and well and reasonable glossy bearing in mind what it went through and the size of its home.

People say that goldfish have only a ten second memory but THIS one remembers I'm sure. No sunning itself at the surface and we generally only see it as a flash of orange darting to safety under the little bridge. It knows what can happen to a fish that is too bold - or unlucky.

Poor little fish. If I can sneak up on it and get a picture I will but it's very cautious.

Wow - that is one hell of a survivor!! Life has been very nasty to it, but that goldfish hangs on - through dryness, through winter, through the occasional canine visits in its pond...

Fish as such aren't all that stupid. Japanese Koi carp, for example, seem to know their owners. And as far as I know, goldfish and koi are somewhat related.

Goldfish are very tough indeed. Apparently some canals have breeding populations of goldfish that have survived for years, but they are mostly brown now, with only the odd gold scale.
I'm sure they are more intelligent than people give them credit for - they certainly learn to recognise when they are about to be fed pretty quickly.

I feel like I am missing something. When I click on the link that says "goldfish"? it takes me to an entry about picking up dog poo.

Either way...my husband affectionately calls me his little goldfish because of my ridiculously shoddy memory. =P

I thought the same thing, but if you scroll up it tells about the golfish.

They are resilliant fishies. I had one that lived quite some time then my cousin cleaned it's tank with a green scrubby from the kitchen sink. It had soap in it. :( Poor fishie.
