Oh how i WISH New Line had been allowed a go at it. They did such a great job on LOTR and The Golden Compass looks like it might be equally sensitively adapted.
But this - this FARRAGO completely misses so many points in a 2 minute trailer I dread to think of the effect of the whole film.
And all the people who have never read the books will be going 'oh cool another fantasy - yay, and it's got Dr Who in it'.
OMG if the movie is as awful as the trailer suggests, it is one thing I'm definitely not going to watch. Not even on DVD. Not even if Falk gets it and I don't have to pay anything for it.
I can't even begin to enumerate what seems to be wrong with it.
WEll Ian McShane for a start, bless him. Merriman need that height and white hair and gravitas. McShane looks like he wandered straight off the set of Tombstone, without washing.
If you want to get a flavour of the true horror trawl through some of the links from this post (http://ozandends.blogspot.com/2006/10/questions-about-dark-is-rising-movie.html). They made my blood run cold.
Even the director admits they rushed every aspect of it, and the self congratulatory tone of the screen writer who has perpetrated this upon us demands that he have a kicking.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!! I love those books, and this is an abomination. When the Dark comes rising the american film industry appears to welcome it in with open arms, corrupting everything it touches!
Gross.... Will Stanton was NOT American, the books are NOT set in America, and no, Ian McShane is nowhere near my image of Merriman. How on earth are they going to place all the mediaeval symbology and stuff in the American context? Never mind the Arthurian stuff if they make the rest of the films... and Wales? When was Wales moved to America?
*stomps off to read the books again and remember how good they are really*.
