Message for MM players - though anyone can read it if they want

Dear Everyone,

You have probably noticed by now that GJ is as dead as a dodo. We don't
know how long this will last but we are looking into alternatives in
case the worst happens.

For now, make the most of Google Docs and keep on writing! We can always
upload threads when we find a new home IF NECESSARY!!

For now DON'T PANIC and, yes, we're as upset as you are.

I was online in the ungodly hours having a cup of tea to warm myself up after burglar hunting in the dark and had been looking at the latest flamewar on there and someone had dared the admin to close it down and see if they cared.

And it did close down from 5.30 am GMT until about 1.45 pm GMT [although some of the people trying to access it may have missed periods of activity]. The server was working but the website itself was locked down.

One hopes, very sincerely, that they used some of the downtime to fix the many many problems it has developed - like eating icons as fast as you post them or refusing to allow edits - since the big immigration from LJ in June, though the cracks were showing before that. I hope they can keep it chugging along because we have nearly 3 years worth of writing on there, some of which I would be PROUD to have betaed and delighted to have written myself.

Even though I'm not in MM anymore, I was upset about this myself, because Mac DID start out on GJ, and the majority of his earlier years of creation are still there. Stupid GJ.

The various comms are all safely backed up but not the character journals.

However the site has started to work again and hopefully will continue to do so.

Fingers crossed that the downtime was an attempt by Admin to silence the howling mob.
