Jul. 14th, 2008 08:19 pmIt's been one of those weekends. No really! I've been cleaning and stuff, looking forward to having
metallumai to stay with us prior to Sidmouth Folk Week and idly planning meals and drinks and things to do [if I can persuade anyone to cover my job at the museum]. Labour saving devices are really handy at times like these and I thought 'well at least I don't have to worry about the dishes' because dishwashers are so handy.
Then mine caught fire. Yeah I know, things full of water shouldn't catch fire but mine did. So now the kitchen smells of burnt electrics, which are unpleasantly fishy. I'm hoping the smell will fade, but the dishwasher is wrecked. I think I feel less aggreieved about it than Jen because she knows I'm likely to ask her to dry the dishes I wash.
However it hasn't all been a disaster because we've got some additional family members who have turned up and I'd like to introduce them to you.

This is Elin, 11 weeks old and very full of herself. She isn't actually black but the darkest tabby I've ever seen. She has little black on black stripes on her legs and head and faint black on black marbling on her sides. She's also a total delinquent and bounces around like Tigger.

And this is Tabiti. 8 or 9 weeks old, not sure exactly, since she and her siblings were born in a wood. She's a cuddly ball of fluff with a penetrating purr.
Sizz is outraged! OUTRAGED! But has given them both a wash to try and get rid of the horrible cat smell.
Wish us all luck with our new little friends.

Date: 2008-07-14 08:23 pm (UTC)You are so lucky, and now I want kittens, but, mustn't have, Because I'm out at work all day and Shabba is just, um, not mummy material? *sigh*
Sorry about the dishwasher though, I'm sure Jen will cope, after all, it could be worse, she could be washing and drying!

Date: 2008-07-14 10:13 pm (UTC)The marking on a cats head is, according to legend, where the Good God stroked him.

Date: 2008-07-14 11:03 pm (UTC)However, at the end of the day, the person the cat will love the most is the one with the cat food in their hands... and no offence to Jen? But I suspect you'll be the one feeding them, so in the end, they will both be your cats.
Plus, after a while you won't really be able to separate them without them pining for the other.... it happens, and then you wind up with two very miserable single cats.

Date: 2008-07-14 08:25 pm (UTC)I had no idea a dishwasher could catch fire. This gives me another splendid excuse not to get one.

Date: 2008-07-15 06:29 am (UTC)I have a mission for you, should you choose to accept it. It involves empirical observation of your new housemates.
I think there could be a genuine mental-genetic connection to colouring on critters... The White/light ones are all hyper-observant and crazy, while the black/dark ones are a bit too trusting and sometimes even dumb about what might be "safe" to do. My theory is that "in the wild" the light coloured ones are more apt to be eaten, so they develop a paranoia, a hyper-vigilance, while the darker ones can escape being lunch just by hanging out in the shadows... All of which boils down to - my black cat is either brain-damaged or retarded. He will do the most stupid, foolish, klutzy things... while Mighty White attacks dogs and acts like the Cat Police around the house... and the tiger/tabby one is a total love sponge.
So - as a matter of scientific observation, you must keep us appraised of the actions and developments with these cuties! Cat logic. Prove or disprove the theory.
(At least you were smart enough to stay with similar colour-tones, so you will have a few items of clothing that the hair won't show on. I just claim I like angora....)
