Higgs Boson and Goodbye!
Sep. 10th, 2008 07:16 amNot really, of course. They wouldn't have been allowed to build that huge machine and turn it on if it was really going to make black holes - would they?
But just in case - *looks at watch, eleven minutes and counting* - it's been nice, guys.
Oh anf if we all survive til lunchtime there's this to listen to either in real time or on the BBC 'Listen Again' service. Trust Cap'n Jack to get in on the fun!

Er, i am right about that, right?.... *wibbles quietly*

Date: 2008-09-10 08:05 pm (UTC)Still, not happened yet. We'll see, when it really gets going, if there's anything to really worry about.

Date: 2008-09-10 08:10 pm (UTC)Mathematically there's absolutely NO reason to worry.
Mathematically bumble bees can't fly.
Funny old world innit?

Date: 2008-09-10 06:36 am (UTC)BBC radio has been trailing their new Torchwood radio episode heavily, with a bit of dialogue featuring Cap'n Jack Harkness explaining to the CERN staff that "he's in charge now" or words to that effect - now that would make me panic!

Date: 2008-09-10 07:30 am (UTC)Yeah, Jack walking in and taking over anything is an indication that something hideous is about to come oozing up through the floorboards.
I'm rather chuffed that it's a Welshman who's i/c the project.

Date: 2008-09-10 11:28 am (UTC)"Hey guys, Gotta great idea. Let's spend 15 years and 18 billion on building a HUGE machine to make black holes and see what happens."
"yeah cool!"

I just sort of wish I had never heard of it. And if, like, some black hole happens and grows and eats the earth, then I would be oblivious. It's sort of like that buffy episode. unless I'm mixing up plots lines. anyway.
I love physics, but man. I don't get it.
